Flipping Systems Allegiance?

Did they ever discuss this possibility?

Lets say we represented a faction and went into a system an went to all the combat zones and defeated all the forces, could we then flip the allegiance of the territory to the faction we want?

Lets say I want to free systems from the feds and want to turn it into an Alliance territory. It would have to be difficult and require quite a few player ships to get together and take down a carrier or something difficult.

Then the faction you represent would move their ships into the sector, pretty much the same combat zones but in the galactic map you'd see the system as under Alliance control.

So literally you could have a galactic war going on including players who were trying to change territories.

What would be the benefit? Possibly the higher your standing with that faction maybe you'd get a discount on goods?

Just an idea. I was wondering if they had ever considered it.

Reminds me of jumpgate where you had to flip beacons.

There are other ways, too.

Imagine a blockade set up to deny a planetary system access to vital supplies, so that the populace revolt against their rulers.

Or you could smuggle in massive quantities of popular goods that the local government have declared illegal, flooding the black market. This could also help to increase the level of discontent and civil disobedience within the population and undermine the government's authority.

Plenty of juicy options...

I like your way of thinking :)

It would just be interesting though if we could make it into a holy war to rid the galaxy of the factions we hate and expand our territory. Some of us may basically call ourselves independent just to spite the controlling mechanisms that are the Federal and Empire states.

How about assuming that the measurable player activity around a system was considered to be a tiny but representative sample of the total activity in that system? The NPC activity could then be tweaked to be biased to reflect this.

For example, if I've found an overly lucrative trading option, it's reasonable to assume that some NPC traders have stumbled upon it too..

I think they are planning something like this.

Only thing is, there has to be rewards. What is rewarding in this game other than the fact you are playing a game? You are rewarded with coin which can be used for better weapons and ships. Its still a treadmill. The other reward people tend to seek is recognition.

We all enjoyed the fact there may be a star named after us or an NPC. How about the more you contribute to a particular faction the more notable you are in their organization? Maybe a ranking system within that faction like an ambassador to a noble, or any sort of name that would be suitable for that particular faction.

Like so we could collect badges of honor like. We were made an honorary mayor of epsilon 5 of the alliance.

I was even thinking of simple achievements or badges that sort of attach to your player like military men wear their medals. Basically like a peacock displays its feathers.

Pride is a reward too I guess.

I hope that FD will release 'events' into the shared universe.

So they might declare that the empire has blockaded a federal system

Players would the be able to blockade run with vital supplies or help enforce the blockade.

In some instances the feds would get the supplies as the players would win, in others the empire would enforce the blockade as the pro empire players won. Overall the aggregate could be used to 'tip' the storyline to either the system folding and becoming empire or the feds resisting.

Alternatively a plague could break out, if enough players ship medial supplies in enough instances, the planet would recover, otherwise a once stable system could become an anarchy.

I believe you need to reach a high rank with a faction in order to buy certain ships and equipment, I think the imperial cutter for example is only available to high ranked imps.
At least that was the plan originally, I don't think it's changed.
