Flow control effect

So recently I determined that I need a large ship for running cargo and settled on the T-9 for its overall capacity and the fact that I've never worked on access to Cutter. I'm not a fan of big ships but you do what you gotta do.

I threw this ship together without much thought and whatever spare parts I had laying around. When Trailblazers started up it was immediately pressed into service as a bulk carrier and a convenient installation selling steel and other necessities was one jump away on a 1G planet... Oh boy, the really bad handling characteristics of the ship show up with a Vengeance! Any slight over correction or speed set me crashing into the ground, there was no sense of control at all. After flailing around for a couple of days I woke up Sunday morning determined to get the ship working better or switch to corvette and take the hit to the cargo capacity. Heat was an issue as well.

Looking over the engineering. The power plant G5 overcharged, I bought another one and took it too G3 with a thermal effect. The FSD was a pre-engineered SCO and the thrusters were DD5 with drag drives so nothing to be gained here.
I upgraded the life support and scanner to the D module, added one level of heavy duty to the Hull, changed out the 6C Biweaves for a 5A prismatic with G5 enhanced low power with flow control.

The last thing I did was take my G5 charge enhanced power distributor and add flow control. This made all the difference in the world, the ship actually can recover from a reasonable overspeed without crashing into the pad. The T-9 actually is enjoyable to fly. No more flailing about and crashing into the pad.

Now I can enjoy Trailblazers to the max!

Flow Control just means the PD uses 10% less power...how does this help with face planting your ship?
I'd do full G5 armoured PP and reinforce those prismics...unless you're playing in solo only, in which case any (almost any) build will work.

Honestly, if you're using a T9 as a mining ship you might as well go for a G5 weapon-focused PD.
It's always going to be dog-slow and sluggish regardless of how much power you feel to the thrusters and you don't really need a big shield when mining so you might as well send as much power as possible to the mining lasers... which will also help keep them cool.

Similarly, if you're using a T9 as a cargo hauler you might as well go for a G5 engine-focused PD.
You're never going to be able to fight usefully so weps don't need much power, you're probably going to have the biggest possible "one & done" shield so there's no point wasting power trying to recharge it so you might as well send as much power as possible to the thrusters. Overall speed will still be abysmal but it'll improve the rate of turn slightly and, if nothing else, help the thrusters run a bit cooler.

I know it doesn't make sense, but it is the only thing that should have made a difference as it still handled like crap until I added the flow control effect... Maybe it makes more power available to ship, allowing 4 pips to the engines effectively have better recovery because more power is flowing to the engines. It's not like it turned the ship into a fighter, but it is significantly better than before. The ship will actually slow down and begin climbing up where before it would just keep drifting down down and slam into the pad with no recovery.

I play mostly in open with no weapons on the T-9, NPCs can be ignored and there's not much I can do to to stop players from killing me in a T-9 other submitting, 4 pips to the shields and waking out ASAP,. With 3.5 billion in the bank I will just have to eat the costs if they want to kill me.

I didn't think about engine focused being I'm almost always thinking about upgrading a multi-role ship for general mission running... The ship is running good, but I might give it a try just for "science"!

Thanks Stealthie!

Uhuh,

Charge-Enhanced is pretty much the default mod' for almost every ship because there's usually more than one system (wep/sys/eng) thats going to need a good supply of juice.
It's really only when you get to "specialised" ships, such as racing ships, mining ships or exploration ships, that you need to start thinking about whether there's a benefit to using any other mod'.

However, cos it's fairly terrible in every major way, the T9 is a ship that can benefit from a PD that focuses on one system or another.

It's a ship that you have to stay ahead of when flying as it just doesn't have the power to the thrusters.

In super cruise you need to pay attention as well because the nube loops are epic!

Flying a large ship takes a gentle stick. Also, on high G worlds I let the auto lander do the work. I have don't it manually, but why take the chance.
