Heh. Yeah, by the time I realised it was too late (two cocker spaniels can be remarkably distracting when they want) my choices were either:

(a) pull the nose up, boost, and make a really long impact scar, or
(b) go into the ground like a dart.

Lithogliding was happening either way...

(For what it's worth, I chose (b).)

While I feel your pain, your delivery was so amusing I couldnt help but laugh - sorry.

You should tell your cocker spaniels to behave or you'll rename them Laika... :) My Shepherd is equally distracting but she's only 3.5 mths so i forgive her (and her cute fluffy, slightly floppsy, ears mean i cant stay mad at her...) [squeeeee]

Oh, no worries, I'm completely sanguine about it. If I'd been on the other side of the Core then I'd be a bit narked, but this is firmly in 'live and learn' territory and I thought other CMDRs might be amused by it.

My two cockers are a 2yr old named Shoogle who's quite bright, and a 14 month-old re-home called Del, who...well, let's just say he licks the carpet. A lot.

Exploration with beer is all nice and cosy until something like this happens...
My worst beer-induced accident was 9kLYs from Sol, outbound towards Sgr A*. Totally forgot about all the normal safety measures when merrily jumping ahead, and slammed into the gravity well of a White Dwarf with my FSD going flat out. THis was in the olden days when heat damage ate up the hull immediately.. so the result of the initial crash + getting out of there was a loss of about 15% hull, and an alarming crack in my canopy. I took the safe route and turned back home that time.

I assume you were flying a Cobra then? Depending on the speed you flew, if you went with option a and hit the ground at a shallow angle, you might have survived that. The game is at times weird with such collisions.
Well, it's done now, so that's just something to keep in mind if you ever have to make such a decision again. Hope you won't, though!

I trashed my 'conda earlier this year after an afternoon in the pub.

I had it parked on a planet's surface & somehow managed to flip it upside down on take off, I then proceeded to try to bounce it through the planet - wondering why my controls weren't working properly!

Didn't even have the sense to log out & then log back in when a little less merry.

Feel your pain.
I am an old explorer, but spare a thought for the early pioneers of Elite like Nutter and many others (Not me). When space was REALLY dangerous and just entering a system from the wrong direction was enough to get you a quick ride home.

My current source of problems is Engineer modules, specially Clean/dirty drive upgrades. Which you have to get use to flying all over again when related to exploring and landing.
