Flying car park needed? Also, PP question.

I'm planning towards an Exploration anaconda for very Long range Exploration and months of autonomy, while ofc staying as light as possible.

I was asking myself if anyone who went on an Exploration trip with a double SRV bay ever lost an SRV and had to use the second one. Because as far as I could experience, the SRV is repaired everytime it is docked back. The only reasons for loosing a SRV is to went out of fuel, which an experienced Explorer should be looking after as naturally as he breathes, of falling off a very high cliff and crashing the SRV, which I still Need to figure out how that could even happen.

Here is my planned loadout and yes, I'm actually trying to figure out how to spare 4 tons while hauling a 20 tons fighter bay. But I Need distraction and fun on my trip, so the fighter bay is needed. I might modify the loadout after actually testing it. Also, I might not take any weapons at all, dunno.

As you may have noticed I have put an undersized but overcharged power plant. Would you rather advise to take a normal PP and make it "low Emissions" instead, for heat Management?

I still Need to unlock Palin and Cheung to achieve that build. Wish me luck :)

I personally never lost an SRV, and only ever take one. I also use the smallest PP possible, it'll manage heat better than a bigger one anyway (iirc); so you can overcharge it no problem.

looking at your build i would make he following changes https://eddp.co/u/ng82ixGz

for long range you don't need weapons, worst case if you ever did get attacked you could deploy the fighter and use that to distract them while escaping.

the only other time you will use a fighter is if you're bored or want to fly some planetary canyons

I tend to go with two srv's for anything long distance, as the couple of tonne extra doesn't make a great deal of difference to a condas jump range. (if you do manage to destroy an srv, the rest of the trip without one is an annoyance)

you only need shields for rough landings so a 4D will work.

never used or taken more than one SRV, but if you feel comfortable taking more then take them.

Since it's an Anaconda, and you only got a +0.08 heat efficiency increase, I'd say there's no need to switch. I flew them with D-rated PP-s before Engineers (0.8 instead of 0.4), and it was quite tolerable even then. To be honest, with A-rated plants you only need LE mods with ships that are notorious for having heat problems, like the Courier - but the Anaconda isn't one.

I found the extra SRV would make you answer: "Lets find out!" to questions like: Can I jump that canyon? What is driving around on a 5+G planet like?

Heh, nail hit on head.

The question should not be "what can one get away with in a single SRV"...it should be "what can one get away with in SRVs".

Thus, the difference between single SRV builds and my planned 4 SRV build...

Yup, I did Distant Worlds with two SRV's, and your attitude changes from 'I'm not doing that I might loose the SRV' to 'that looks fun, let's give it a bash and what the hell!'.

I did a jump off of a 30km mountain and survived the first bounce. I would have lost the SRV if I hadn't had the time to do a quick SRV repair synthesis before I hit the ground again. Absolutely hilarious, but I wouldn't have even gone near the damn thing if I'd had only one SRV.

So, while I never lost one, having two greatly added to my enjoyment while 65KLY from the bubble, so take two (or more) :)

Sad to say, I lost the SRV 'Dudley Docker' after I plunged down into a narrow gorge and was unable to drive back out or land the Lakon Type 6E nearby for docking. I spent the better part of an hour trying to climb up out of that gorge and failed. In the end, I had to self-destruct. I only have the second SRV, the 'James Caird' now and am VERY careful driving about as I am still far out in the Sagittarius-Carina Arm.
