Flying into stars

Instead of having a physical boundary which we cannot pass, why not let us be able to fly into a star and be able to burn up and die? The closer you get the hotter the ship gets. Heatsinks will become useless at a certain point.

You can do that now, you just can't do it in supercruise because of the masslock.

It'd be good if non landable bodies still had a gravitational pull.

Then you can switch your thrusters off and free fall much faster than usual. Especially if that bodies has huuuge gravity.

Was a little disappointed during the original Beta, when fuel scooping was about to roll out they showed an ingame screenshot of the ship close to a star with condensation dripping down the canopy. I had hoped we would be able to dive deep into stars, our only safety being self preservation. Unfortunately we have an onboard computer system that likes to babysit us.

Nanny computers, from Nanny States, for the Nannied Generation.

A sign of the times.

I support this, along with OBVIOUSLY the ability to fly into (or as close as possible to, before instadeath) a black hole. And a gas giant, and anything else, I don't believe graphics work would be required. Just a couple of new warnings and 'kill you' mechanics. They already don't care about the graphics anyway, you been to Earth? For gas giants a new warning, atmospheric pressure, then hull integrity, then boom. For stars, heat until you die, simples, no need to simulate contact. Black holes, I'm gonna go with pressure again plain and simple, and of course an event horizon which once you pass you cannot escape from and get a full 5 seconds to consider how silly you were, before insta-crushing-death. Easy.

I'm thinking that the devs probably thought that it would be pointless...
