Focus in galaxy map

I'm using an HP Reverb 2 headset and loving the whole ED experience. One problem: in the galaxy map, I want to search for a system, but I usually can't get keyboard focus into the search box. I have managed that a few times by accident, but can't reproduce it! It must be some combination of cursor location, keyboard destination, joystick button (logitech), or something else. Can anyone tell me what the parameters for that are? Thanks in advance.

I am using G2 as well and not sure I understand exactly what you are having trouble with, but your cursor is moved around the User Interfaces by your Key binding settings (Keyboard / Joystick / HOTAS etc) in “Options”, “Controls”, “General Controls”, “Interface Mode”, “UI Settings”, ie “UI Panel Up / Down / Left / Right / Select”. Your Mouse should also work in VR allowing you to click on the UI buttons.

Yes, theoretically that should work. Here's what I am struggling with. I open the galaxy map. I tab into the panel for routing, then try to search for a system in the search box there. Sometimes I can get the keyboard focus there, other times not. When I do, and manage to type a destination, sometimes I can tab over to the arrow next to the search box, click (with the joystick trigger), and get taken to that system. Usually, though, I cannot get anything to happen. I try various combinations with mouse, keyboard and joystick triggers, but can't get consistent behaviour. I have tried various setting in Interface Mode options with no luck.

My TAB key doesn't work at all within the galaxy map. I use either the mouse to click into the search box then type, or cycle through the options using the UI defined keys to the search box then type.
I also have "Borderless" set in the Options/Display/Fullscreen setting
