PvP Fold CQC into Open

Wouldn't it be neat if CQC (here we go, beating that dead horse again) battles were folded into normal play in Open i.e. an arena in Shinrarta Dezhra or Sol/Achenar? Players could sign up for a round where they are matched against or challenged by other players in "SLF", "stock" and "engineered" brackets to ensure a level playing field, while spectators buy tickets to the fight (distributed among the combatants, with the winner receiving the lion's share). Fights could be 1v1 or wing-fights with reduced rebuy (and/or surrender mechanics i.e. stowing your hardpoints for 10s = surrender, invulnerability and an autopilot flies you to the exit in the tab menu).

Obviously other players can't enter the battle area or interfere with matches in progress, and players challenged to CQC matches would be granted a temporary permit to travel to restricted systems (unable to drop out of supercruise at stations, planets, tourist sites, etc. except the CQC arena) if they do not possess a permit, and probably given some kind of immunity from interdiction (same applies to spectators) in that system. Once the match is concluded, players that do not have system permits would not be allowed to low-wake out of the CQC arena instance, they could only high-wake to another system. The idea is to make CQC somewhat interesting and give a point to organized PvP while also allowing other players to watch and learn.

I would love to be able to use my normal ships like FDL in CQC arenas for arranged PvP matches (without the need to fly all the way to one system to have the fights)... I think it would be pretty cool.

I think after you've piled *that* many exceptions on to what can and can't be done to and by CQC match attendees or spectators, many of which would require a lot of extra code, I'm not entirely clear what the point of holding it in Open in the first place is.

If you want arranged matches - on a variety of terms - with main-game ships, there's the PvP Hub in San Tu and its associated Discord server.

If you want CQC-style SLF matches, log in to CQC. There are enough players to get matches most of the time ... there probably wouldn't be if they all had to move to the same system first every time.

Yes, but that requires you being there with your ship...not very convenient. It would be just nice to switch to CQC style arena with one of the ships you own, without the need to fly to San Tu.

i definitely think there could / should be some places to do "real life" CQC in the main game.
possibly make it illegal underground activity (fight club) at junk yard system which sells low end ships for bottom dollar to smash up. (not covered on insurance, spawn back at cqc base in your main ship if you lose your CQC one.

charge a fee to enter, buy and spec out ship from a limited range and then winner takes all - less an admin fee for the organising faction.

i do think however the current "VR" version needs to stay for those out in the black, however this could / should definitely have an option to set up an arena with a virtual version of your actual ship.

"officially" endorsing blowing up 400 million credit ships for jollies and your insurance covering it in the name of CQC in the main game..... i would not want that personally.

Personally, I wish there was a way to enter CQC while the ship keeps flying to it's long approach for a target over 50,000 ls away.

Ever since CQC came out people have been urging the devs to make it relevant to the main game. Turn it into the galaxy's most popular sport type of thing. All manner of great ideas to integrate it into every mechanic that the main game deals in and give us a new and exciting addition to ED's world.

My own original suggestion is here:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...estion-To-Improve-CQC-s-Relevance-Integration

And here is the latest version I have made of that idea:

I respect CQC PvP for being much more skill based than main game PvP without any RNGineer and meta build nonsense going on. A level 50 player and a level 1 player are both flying pretty much the same kind of ship load outs. There is no OP or super good meta modules that unlock with higher experience levels. For that alone CQC would be the superior PvP mode in my opinion if it were used as something more than just a bog standard Deathmatch arena.

Unfortunately it has no connection to the main game whatsoever and as a result a completely dead matchmaking pool. It needs to be made into a natural extension of the main game in order to flourish.
- Accessible from stations like the galaxy's greatest sport - featuring mentions in Galnet.
- All ship types must be usable in small, medium and large mode playlists as well as a free for all mode
- Increase credit rewards
- Put in bots and customisation bot modes
- Let players watch live matches and bet credits on the outcome of a match
- Use CQC as a platform for tournaments. The Icarus Cup, anyone remember that proposal by FD? Anyone recall that FD once said they wanted CQC to become an E-sport? Not by forgetting it even exists it won't....
- Let players earn Naval rank, PP merits and/or minor faction rep by signing up to be sponsored by your chosen Navy/Power play power/minor faction. That would create some variety in what is otherwise a soulless and monotone grind for ranks, merits and BGS rep.

There is so much that could be done with CQC. It could be so much more than the abandoned gimmick that it currently is. The ideas have all been posted by players over the years, there is no shortage of them. It's up to FD to actually revive and flesh out this place holder feature.

With the invention of telepresence the stage has been set for some time now. It's all up to the devs at this point, they have a wealth of ideas to work with and enough feedback to see what the community broadly wants out of CQC. FD were super enthusiastic at one point about CQC, they were even talking about it becoming an E-sport but they've since lost all visible interest in it. Kind of like the Icarus Cup - a PvP tournament they seemed super jazzed about, even planning to make a bobblehead trophy as the prize until they went silent on it and never mentioned it again.

The ball is in FD's court.
