Follow me please?

So you are a smuggler of contraband - ie your a drug mule, a slave exploiter or a gun runner - and your worried about the morality of the game trying to persuade you to betray your employer???
.
Just wanted to check I was understanding it properly before I answer?

Yeah. I smuggle contraband, for a fee. I don't buy it on my own dime but if someone wants some hauled somewhere that I'm going anyway and I have the extra cargo space, no problem. As for a slave exploiter, I traffic in Imperial Slaves. They sold themselves into slavery, no one forced them to do it. I personally think that anyone who would do that even to avoid a debt is cracked in the head, but hey, that's what they do in the Empire. I don't deal in unregulated slaves though.

I do have scruples, although not many. I won't complete an assassination mission against a clean target who my employer told me was a Pirate Lord Scum, and I won't betray an employer for money. Anything else is pretty much open. Except running unregulated slaves, that is.

Worth following once, just for the wake exist practice (it's tricky) .But yeah I ignore them too - any mission I'm on is for the Rep, so...
Also don't accept missions for clean targets, but make an exception for the celebrities - justification being that they're all from the 70s. ;)

As a bounty hunter I see this often. I tend to stick to wanted targets, and if someone wants to pay me more to hunt another wanted target then I'll do it.

I followed one once. The chat I got from him didn't make any sense, it was like I'd invaded his space. Broken AI or probably something half developed that slipped into 1.3.

The only time I bothered to follow one of these I was offered less money to subvert the destination of my cargo than the original mission was paying. Waste of time, so I just ignore them now.

It's been happening to me every mission I take. What I want to do is "Oh. You're trying to subvert my mission? Sure, I'll follow you. And then KILL your butt!!" Only thing that stops me is it invariably happens in the destination system and then I wouldn't be able to land to complete the mission because I'd have a murder bounty on my record.

Its the greatest thing capitalism ever made !- the willing slave ! Amazing what mental conditioning and carefully engineered circumstances can do.

Exactly what I would do. I'm a mercenary, have no doubt of that, but I don't kill innocents for any amount of money.

Meh! They are just electrons on my screen. They feel no pain when I obliterate them, there are no innocents...everyone is guilty of something. ;-)

You have no imagination. Of course they don't actually starve or feel pain. Electrons can't do that and as you said, they're just electrons. But this is science fiction. In fiction (science or otherwise) there is always a willing suspension of disbelief.
