Follow-on missions

So what gives ... you have a follow-on mission showing in your mission board. Close the mission board and re-open ... it's now changed. Repeat and the same. I'd assume that's a bug but knowing how things 'are' perhaps that's an intended feature? These factions just can't decide what they want you to do!

Anybody else seen this?

Maybe it's an attempt to cater to the board flippers, so they can choose which follow up mission they want...

...or you could say it's the inherrent feature of the RNG board.

I never really got the point of follow on missions, they seem to be just a normal mission that could have spawned anyway.

But everyone seems to treat them like they're a big deal.

Am I missing something?

They're great from a BGS perspective, and their rewards (at least for delivery missions) are superior to usual.

OP
Yes. I believe this is an intended feature.

I have taken some of these follow-on missions, but only after they have changed to a mission that more suited my ship load out at that time.

1) As Triple Elite, nearly all normal missions are Elite, while Follow-ons tend to be a bit easier. Nice to be able to do an Assassination without swapping out of my Python
2) They tend to be missions with higher Inf. Not always, but it feels like that
3) They are (were, have not checked in 3.0) transferable. Earn a few Follow-Ons at a big station with good missions, go and accept them at your crappy out of the way station that has a bad mission board.

Always seemed to me like they were a placeholder for actual interesting mission chains with some kind of narrative content and, you know, actual interesting or varied gameplay.

Someday, maybe...
