Following NPC out of SC

I keep getting msg'd by NPC's, "Follow me I have information for you." Then they drop out of SC and leave behind a low level wake.

I lock onto the wake, but I can't figure out how to drop down to meet them. If I go slow enough to approach (and it takes forever) the wake times out and disappears. If I go fast enough to get there, it zips past me with little warning and I have to begin again.

I've also tried crash stops to regular space when right on top of the marker, but ended up alone and damaged my hull.

What am I doing wrong?

It can be done, it just takes practice, and a very steady hand on the throttle.

You must approach in the Goldilocks zone , not too fast, not too slow, as you have observed. Give it a few tries on a non-mission wake and see if you can nail it.

To be honest, it's not worth the bother though, unless you want to follow a mission branch, which often has a lesser reward (or none) at the end.

Usually though, the ship in question is itself a mission target, so if you can drop in on their wake, you can rack up a kill for your mission.

I have the same issue. I do not follow them as they just give counter offers now to missions. Its nicer then dropping into a USS, and BLAM here I just broke your mission.

I've just locked onto the closest USS that appears when the hailing ship drops out. But in case you haven't had this experience yet, be warned, it's a trap- usually a bunch of pirates immediately show up and attack after saying something like "I can't believe that worked!"

Same thing for SSS's ...you drop out and see a whole bunch of Gold canisters...as soon as you open your cargo scoop, you'll be attacked by 3 or more ships...all anacondas or Pythons. It can be fun if you have a good fighting ship, but not if you just bring an Asp or something. :)

Out of 5 times I have tried to drop in on one of these I have managed to with great dificulty to drop into 1.
I no longer bother, they need to work on the auto speed and distance to these.
Until then I'll just carry on with whatever mission it is and ignore the "follow me I have info for you" bods when they show up

There's no auto slowdown with wakes, you just need to be very gentle with the loud pedal.
Will get "safe disengage " eventually, but it takes some practice.

Actually there IS slowdown with wakes, the issue is that it doesn't work every time. Most of the time You just have to target the wake and set your throttle to 6 seconds like the rest. Sometimes it plain doesn't work. Sometimes you wont even be able to drop into the wake and the game will tell you 'cloud not scanned' as if it is a high energy wake.
