Firstly let me mention that this is only my second poll I've attempted to create (the first was on colour blindness during the alpha / beta phase) and secondly let me mention that I'm a grizzled old alpha backer from the Kickstarter days so do have a solid investment in ED, Frontier and their vision for the Elite franchise.

So Powerplay. 1.3 and all that. Yes it's a big update and a lot of time, effort and love has gone in to it but personally I'm not too excited by it. Reading the pdf confused me (again) and ultimately it looks like doing the same stuff we've been doing since (pre) launch but under a different guise. Yes, there are a few more missions (mining etc.) and tweaks to the mission requirements but what happened to the old FFE missions such as photographing a certain target or transporting passengers. Surely it's less difficult to implement (non visible) camera and passenger modules than several types of drone, thereby offering more mission variety.

e.g. Photo a hostile faction ship/station/planet and return (but run the risk of getting ambushed by the opposing faction)
OR transport important passenger(s) / space tourism / pilot relocation

Another thing I miss from the "old days" is the random shipyard. Being able to buy the same "new" ships from each station is all well and good and you can see how/why FD have done it but I loved not knowing what was going to be available and also what modules might be fitted to a second hand ship when you docked at a station. Seeing several (different colour schemed!) Cobra MK III's with different prices / registrations and layouts never got dull and you always checked, just in case there was something you liked!

And, while I'm at it....What about black markets? Surely you should be able to buy random dodgy stuff there too? IMHO the Contacts option is vastly underutilised.

Anyway, I'm sure these issues have been raised before but what are YOU most looking forward to in the Elite Dangerous future?

Personally, I go weak at the knees at the thought of procedurally generated Planetary Landings. Taking away the unwritten pressure to progress and bringing the enjoyment of pure exploration and discovery. I often look longingly at a newly discovered world and rather than just logging the data and moving on, daydream about swooping down to the surface, landing at a cove and watch the star(s) setting from the shore of this previously unknown planet. I understand to do the whole planetary landings thing with alien life, human cities etc. is a massive undertaking but a staged implementation of this would be a godsend personally.

Yes, the ability to walk around stations and the likes would be nice to have but as <whisper> X Rebirth </whisper> showed, it's important to get it right and for it not to feel repetitive. This is a whole game in itself to do correctly and IMHO will take considerable time to arrive.

tl;dr

So, what would you most like to see in Elite Dangerous going forwards?

I would like to see lots of new ships specialised for each purpose (trading, bounty hunting, pirating, exploration) at different price points. At the moment the path upwards is a bit convoluted. For example an explorer couldn't explore their way to an Anaconda which is the ultimate exploration machine.

To top this off we need the Galactic Ferry to move player assets around easily since there are a lot of players who like to call one place "home". Upping sticks and moving all your ships to a different part of the galaxy is impractical unless you are moving next door. Take a look at this thread:

For me, minions.

The ability to hire pilots with their own ships or to use ones you own. Incorporate them into a wing and mine, trade or explore. Should be ranked according to skill levels and specialisation like "miner" "combat pilot" "smuggler" etc. Should be able to operate in a wing or on their own. So you could send them off to trade between two systems on a programmed route. Or, explore and scan a specific system. Or, Mine a RES site. Or, be your wingman.

Sounds very much X3.

Perhaps more ships from different manufacturers that compete at the levels of Sidewinder, Cobra, Python and Anaconda, but are instead geared specifically for a certain task. The Diamondback seems to be indicative of this kind of trend at the Cobra level. We already have the trade equivalents in terms of the Hauler, Type 6, Type 7 and Type 9.

Otherwise, passenger and espionage missions, and maybe even sabotage or raid missions where you act as the driver in heists, sabotage missions, terrorist plots and even station assaults.

Persistent NPCs, 1.Person and then planetary landings in that order. Thats my speculations about how I see the game being developed. But who knows :p

Maybe persistent naked NPC's? Let's meet halfway.

Anyway I'd like to see a change to capital ships so that they don't always just spawn in a scripted way. I want capital ships to be persistent. I'd also like to see huge, huge capital ships, much bigger than the ones in the game. The kind that seem colossal even without point of reference (ie. the distance between the player and ship) or imagination. Also I'd like to see scenarios that involve hundreds of players in the same instance. I mean planetside 2 did it, right?

Right now: Powerplay. The system seems very interesting and involving.

After 1.3: Tweeks and fixes to the Powerplay and mission system. & More realism and interesting things to discover while exploring! (e.g. matter transfer for stars, random ship wrecks from expeditions, mysteries and leads to... whatever (aliens?))

Additionally: More ships which all have their use. I like some variety. This includes NPCs actually using all ships that are in the game. (Never seen a FDL or Vulture at Nav Beacon or RES)

The glorified planetary landings sound so boring, because we probably won't have anything to do. I'd much rather have more variety in space stations (asteroid station!!). It would be nice to walk around at a station or my ship, but after doing it 1-2 times the fun wears off, because there will be NOTHING to do there besides looking at nice corridors.

I voted others for :

An EVE / Black Forest style character creator - biggest thing for me to add immersion at this stage and provide everyone with avatars, while the others, bar ships are some way off, and would take years anyway.
Please just license the EVE or Black Forest creator and lets start making out pilots real in the universe

More content! Give us more meaningful stuff to do with other players, conflict, etc. I'm talking about space here, I kinda despise the idea of landing in a planet.

NPC dialogs -> "web of contacts" and passenger transportation. For me those things lack from core ED. If those are added, we can add small tweaks and things and wait for expansions.

What I'd like to see is some co-operative gameplay. Despite wings being added there are no co-operative missions and the new powerplay stuff seems to be primarily competitively focused with its emphasis on being within the top 50%+ of your faction.
