Firstly let me mention that this is only my second poll I've attempted to create (the first was on colour blindness during the alpha / beta phase) and secondly let me mention that I'm a grizzled old alpha backer from the Kickstarter days so do have a solid investment in ED, Frontier and their vision for the Elite franchise.
So Powerplay. 1.3 and all that. Yes it's a big update and a lot of time, effort and love has gone in to it but personally I'm not too excited by it. Reading the pdf confused me (again) and ultimately it looks like doing the same stuff we've been doing since (pre) launch but under a different guise. Yes, there are a few more missions (mining etc.) and tweaks to the mission requirements but what happened to the old FFE missions such as photographing a certain target or transporting passengers. Surely it's less difficult to implement (non visible) camera and passenger modules than several types of drone, thereby offering more mission variety.
e.g. Photo a hostile faction ship/station/planet and return (but run the risk of getting ambushed by the opposing faction)
OR transport important passenger(s) / space tourism / pilot relocation
Another thing I miss from the "old days" is the random shipyard. Being able to buy the same "new" ships from each station is all well and good and you can see how/why FD have done it but I loved not knowing what was going to be available and also what modules might be fitted to a second hand ship when you docked at a station. Seeing several (different colour schemed!) Cobra MK III's with different prices / registrations and layouts never got dull and you always checked, just in case there was something you liked!
And, while I'm at it....What about black markets? Surely you should be able to buy random dodgy stuff there too? IMHO the Contacts option is vastly underutilised.
Anyway, I'm sure these issues have been raised before but what are YOU most looking forward to in the Elite Dangerous future?
Personally, I go weak at the knees at the thought of procedurally generated Planetary Landings. Taking away the unwritten pressure to progress and bringing the enjoyment of pure exploration and discovery. I often look longingly at a newly discovered world and rather than just logging the data and moving on, daydream about swooping down to the surface, landing at a cove and watch the star(s) setting from the shore of this previously unknown planet. I understand to do the whole planetary landings thing with alien life, human cities etc. is a massive undertaking but a staged implementation of this would be a godsend personally.
Yes, the ability to walk around stations and the likes would be nice to have but as <whisper> X Rebirth </whisper> showed, it's important to get it right and for it not to feel repetitive. This is a whole game in itself to do correctly and IMHO will take considerable time to arrive.
tl;dr
So, what would you most like to see in Elite Dangerous going forwards?
