exile, physics and a jetpack, whats not to love.

hunter, open world military 'sim', almost the ARMA of it's day(using 'sim' in it's loosest possible sense)

alien breed, best 'aliens' game despite the lack of licence.

turrican 2( still have 1 or 2 music tracks from that on my phone)

elite obviously.

tomb raider 1 -3

resident evil 1 and 2(i love bad films so the terrible dubbing just made it better)

planetside 1, every other FPS seemed so small after that, 32 players! try 300-400.

powermonger, more direct control than populous and a massive archipelago to conquer

Elite obviously, both 1 and 2
Starflight - the first one. I loved the exploration aspect.
Ultima series: both single and MMO - actually met my wife on Ultima Online :)
Tomb Raider series.
Populous 1 & 2.
Gunship

Of course Elite. Do we all need to mention this?

My first ever PC was a 486DX2. I'd heard a lot about two games in particular, which were my first purchases: Monkey Island, and Doom. I'd enjoyed text adventures like "The Hobbit" and "Velnor's Lair" on the Spectrum. What a surprise Monkey Island was! It was easy to use. It had a sparkling wit. And it also guaranteed that nothing you did would kill you off and sent you back to the start. That guarantee was what gave you the freedom to explore all possibilities and to see all the jokes.

My surprise at Monkey Island was dwarfed by the jaw-droppingly Oh!-My!-God!-iness of Doom. I'd played maze games before so I wasn't surprised when I saw where my man started. I wasn't even that surprised when I moved the mouse and watched the scenery scroll smoothly. It's when I pressed the forward button expecting to see my man jump to the next location point, and instead saw the world rush towards me... Wow!

The problem with having those two games as your introduction to PC gaming is that the games which followed them were an anti-climax. It took years for them to be bettered.

Horace goes skiing was one of the first games I played on my zx81. It was amazing back then. Replayed it in a web emulator, and man, games really hated you back then, didn't they. Hard.

There are too many games, that I simply can't remember the names of, the one where you are a witch and have to collect ingredients, Shadow-something-or-other set on a space ship with things going on. Others I can, Lords of Midnight, Wipeout, Ultima 4, IK+, Elite, Light and Dark, Half Life, X-Com.

the game changer for me was C&C tiberian sun, it was the first game i'd ever seen where you could play against other people via the internet and i loved it!

i spent six months watching a friend play it on his PC while i bought parts to build my own. i was never any good at saving so i thought this was the best way of getting myself a computer - it had the side bonus of teaching me a heck of a lot about building and troubleshooting computers, something that has earned me quite a bit of cash since :)

Maybe the fondest single memory is watching (a real life) total Lunar eclipse while playing Elite on C64.

* Lotus racing (Certainly not the best racer, but fondest memories with connected amigas.)
* Sensible Soccer (What's 'soccer'? Apart from the silly name the best football sim there ever was)
* Warlords! (Talk about "just one more turn", and it took forever to complete! Still don't know how I could play it that much.)
* Panzer General (and others in that genre of shuffling square bricks around)
* Counterstrike (The only online multiplayer game I ever tried. Was fun in the beginnings.)

Still play regular Sensible Soccer tournaments on the office Sega Megadrive, scoring from the half-way line earns you a Toffee Crisp out of the vending machine!
