Engineers Food for Thought

Ok, so I am sat in front of my pc enjoying a nice pint of Aldi leek and potatoe soup for lunch (yummy [yum]) when it struck me.

Here I am out on this year long mission to discover what I can - all well and good...but what would be sustaining me for such a long journey in the black. It's not like I can just pop round to the nearest station and pick up supplies and given all the modules and hold space packed into our ships, wouldn't at least some of that be required for provisions or at least basic components for a food synthesiser of some description.

Naturally, being a proficient explorer I would have supplied my vessel with the necessary foodstuffs/water for such a long journey - but what happens if it runs out, or is destroyed, or contaminated - would I die from dehydration or starvation, certainly as the game stands now I wouldn't be able to land on a planet with life - even if I found one, and even if I could who's to say I could find something edible that wasn't trying to eat me first lol.

Makes you wonder. [hehe]

Don't worry, even from Beagle point you can get back in about a day if you push it. Not enough time to die from lack of supplies, even if space rats eat all your space rations :)

Your ship's life support system contains a sophisticated waste reclamation and hydroponics system which grows soya-protein resources for your food processor to turn into a variety of delicious and nutritious snacks. Well, that's if you bought the A-rated one.

The D-rated version gives you a couple of empty grow-bags, some raw potatoes, and a pair of rubber gloves. The E-rated one leaves out the rubber gloves.

I don't have a source at hand, but afaik a ton of food will last you very, very long. Consider probably advanced recycling so you can reuse the same water, O2 etc., and I don't think it is a stretch to not really worry about stocking up on food for a long journey.
