Food for thought

"It's all so much more convenient than before, with fast travel and a detailed map that marks missions, milestones and incoming public events - putting a small industry of unofficial companion websites that used to perform such services out of business in an instant. A lot of thought has been put into removing the pain and friction that used to exist, and on that front it's been a resounding success."

Is putting all of the fan-made tools out of "business" really a good thing though? I'd rather see a game dev support and promote the creations of some of its most dedicated community members than seek to render their efforts obsolete.

Don't even get me started on fast travel; a game mechanic capable of competing with "press X to not die" for sheer magnitude of awfulness.

Press F to pay respects comes to mind...

Fast travel is one of the worse inventions ever to have made it way into the gaming industry. Especially hate games that keep on suggesting you use it, FF15 for example. It like the artists don't want you to see the world they spent years creating.

Doesn't really apply to ED though, does it?? Once you've seen the eight planet types and five sun types, you've seen all 400,000,000+ systems so you don't really want your game play time wasted by being forced to visit them every time you want to get anywhere.

I rather frontier spend their time adding content and variation to the game than put in fast travel.

yeah, its a bit like backpacking: once you've met both genders, a black person, a white person and a brownish person there isn't really any purpose to leaving the house. That is how math works. :)
