Foot combat missions should not involve the spacecraft

Ufff, I can't understand this game. 😑 It seems that the developers are deliberately trying to make the gameplay unpleasant on purpose. Otherwise I don't understand these design decisions.

Sequence of events:

  1. Mission to exterminate 15 members of the XXX criminal faction on planet YYY.
  2. Arrival on the planet.
  3. Landing 2.5 km from the target settlement.
  4. Get off at the SRV.
  5. Arrive with the SRV to the settlement.
  6. Start shooting at the target npc's.
  7. Receive notice: your ship is under attack! (wait... what?!!) 😲
  8. Get on the SRV and try to get to the ship as quickly as possible (you have to travel almost 3 km back).
  9. Finding out that your ship is under attack by an outlaw system defense ship, a Master level Vulture.
  10. See your ship explode into pieces with 500 meters left to reach it. 🥶
  11. Mission failure. 😡

But what insider's mind came up with the idea that this is good game design?
What is killing EDO is not the bugs, that could be forgiven, it is destroyed by bad and absurd design decisions like this. It is absolutely unfortunate. What a mess. 😐

No need to land so far out. You can dock at the settlement.
Disembark and dismiss your ship. You can even disembark in the SRV if you want. No more long walks!
Why shoot the enemies by hand weapon? First, shoot them from the air using dumbfire missiles. Mop up any survivors outside with your SRV plasma cannons. Finally go in on foot if any remain in cover.

It's not a game design problem. You just need to think these things through. This isn't an arcade shoot-'em-up.

This is the way

Openly going loud while attacking a military settlement with a combat air patrol will result in you being attacked by said combat air patrol. For these sorts of missions a more subtle approach is usually needed.

Ships will detect weapon fire from your ship or SRV, but cannot detect personal weapons. If the alarms are disabled, then as long as you don't shoot the settlement defences or any skimmers, the ships will be completely unaware of what you're up to even as you systematically wipe out everyone at the base. My favourite is to just blow away the guy in the alarm room, switch off the alarms, then stand inside the door with a shotgun and wait for people to come in one by one to investigate what all those loud bang noises are.
