For added immersion...

I can't believe this hasn't already been suggested (or I couldn't see it, if it had), but how about Galactic radio stations, similar to Grand Theft Auto?
Couple of music genres and a talk station, say, with little news and gossip updates to build the atmosphere. Maybe just certain radio stations in certain factions systems, which would help the player know who's running things as soon as they arrive.

Well?

While I somewhat like this idea, I'm not really sure if it's worth the effort. It would take a lot of work to make sure that the content isn't repetitive, bland or just pointless. There's other ways to build immersion, too, and a finite amount of man-hours to work on adding immersion-building things. I think any voice acting resources would be better spent on making things like new station announcers.

Also FYI, searching for ''radio stations'' yielded 11 suggestion threads about adding radio stations to the game in the manner that you propose.

Excellent idea, it would inject some much needed personality into the sometimes flat atmosphere. I wonder if there are any user run streaming stations? I've heard a podcast, but it is fans discussing the game, we need something more like your suggestion.

This idea was suggested dozens of times since Beta, some players even tried to make one third party radio where they played music and provided information from GalNet, trade routs and so on, but it was taken down if i remember correctly.

One solution might be for FD to implement a system where you can choose to listen to one of the countless internet radio stations as if they were galactically broadcast via subspace. I wouldn't imagine that would be too much of a coding or more importantly and administrative overhead for FD to maintain.
