I tried using a few name Generators. I had luck with them naming my starships on Star Trek Online but for some reason couldn't find one I liked for this. I ended up naming my first and current ship Mercenary Star. I guess I can give a name generator another shot with new ships.

Get out a star catalog! There are hundreds of cool names in there to choose from. Then you have your usual Greek and Roman mythology, classic literature etc.

I'd say yes. Even when playing STO i never called my ship the Enterprise. I would however draw from older ship names in that universe though. But in ED those names are just asking for trouble. I get liking the name. I think most of us do. But try and have more originality. Might make good targets for any potential pirates out there.
