For how long should we expect this game to grow?

Of course games do eventually stop receiving DLC and updates, even paid content.

I’m very curious as to how long we can expect Planet Coaster to grow and receive new content: not only scenery and rides and little tweaks, but with big new systems and mechanics as well.

I often look through the suggestions forums and would like to think that this game will be supported with new content and expansion packs for many years, so that a lot of what we want in the game will eventually be fulfilled. I think playing a game that we know is growing and only a fraction of what it will be in the future is far more exciting.

Obviously the continued development of this game all comes down to time and viability. I know it’s early days (I hope), but I’d like to see some discussion on this, and if and when you think this game will be "finished" as such.

I’m sure the developers have casually spoken about this at one time or another, but I haven’t seen anything personally. If anyone has information or thoughts on this, that’d be just smashing! [up]

Frontier does not announce anything regarding their long term plans for Planet Coaster. As such, it is unknown how long Frontier plans to support the game.

That being said, it is logical to assume that Frontier will support Planet Coaster as long as the game remains profitable by means of additional sales of the vanilla game and sales of the current (and possibly future) DLC.

The only thing that is known, is that several key people at Frontier have mentioned that they still have lots of ideas for exciting new things for Planet Coaster. What those exciting things are and if/when we get to see those things, is something that will be announced Frontier as soon as they are 100% confident that those things are ready to be announced.

Some of those key people are David Braben, CEO of Frontier, who talked a little bit about this during the 24 hour Charity livestream of last week, and Jonny Watts, CCO (Chief Creative Officer), who mentioned this several times during Frontier Expo 2017.

TL;DR: there is no official public answer to your question, but there are indications that Frontier still has lots of ideas for exciting new things for Planet Coaster. :)

Copied a sentence from one of my previous reply on this topic. You can actually take my answer as an official answer.

"We are very careful not to make promises, because we don't want to raise expectations that can't come true. I know that some people have had personal chats with us, or speculate on things they have heard on the streams, but please don't take that as official communication. "

The official channels (forum, reddit, social media accounts, livestreams) are the vessel for any official news and announcements. Anything said in passing or informally is not a promise.

Thanks for the reply Bo :)

From a buisness standpoint i fully understand this answer. Maybe it's not known what the future might hold because it all depends on sales and even IF a short roadmap exists then they still have to follow their marketing plan. So rational i perfectly know and understand this.

Yet from a personal / emotional standpoint, i would so much like to hear a simple statement like "don't worry, there is more to come". [wink]

Guess there is no other option but to wait and see, and i really really hope there will be many more updates :)

I agree with Vampiro. :)

Like Bo said: no promises.

I completely agree with Frontier's outlook. It's a wonderful game which is getting better and better. I am aiming to dedicate a lot more time with the game. It's a game ahead of it's time, which can be a good or bad thing.

What have been the DLC's sales figures thus far for 'Spooky', ? little early for 'Adventure', but it'll still be nice to know.

Would like to know that as well, but i think that is confidential information :)
And to be honest, the numbers don't tell me anything. Imagine Spooky sold 100.000 Units, is that good? is it bad? I have no clue.

For that reason im more curious to a general view... If spooky and adventure did "very well" then it suggests there is more to come.

So yes, i agree to you i would love to know how the game and it's DLC's is doing. But im not too interested in numbers, but more interested in "does it justify more?" :D

one way to judge them is based on how many blueprints are available, which is quite a lot higher than the 3 licensed DLCs combined [up]

Oops off-topic :( better not discuss things other than the title of the thread

I was still playing RCT3P last year, roughly a decade of intermittent play (not counting RCT2 before that). [wacky] A game like this has staying power. But it depends a lot on base gameplay (it took some community-created fixes to be really playable) and versatility. If the devs don't have the time or resources to fill in the gaps in current content then they should allow user-generated content so we can do it ourselves.

Depending upon the continued success of the game, a total of 5 years minimum is my guess. Games that release DLC tend to last longer. If the game dwindles in popularity and income, then it won't last as long. I wouldn't worry about it though, they'll be plenty of updates to the game over the next few years, and just because a game stops getting updates doesn't mean you can't play it anymore. I still play games from the 80s and 90s. ;)

I would love to know that at least next dlc/update is being worked on.. ;) but yes, it is all up to Frontier, indeed.
I am eager to see PlanCo thrive for years to come.

Well you know, I've bought the 3 first small dlc on release date but am holding to buy spooky and adventure.

I mean, I will definatly buy them, but not at that price, its 16$ in CAD via steam. I'll wait for them once they'll be 50% off.
I bet am not the only one in that position.

Not that I dont think thoses dlc are worthed the actual asked price, but I still think that kind of dlc should not cost more than 10$, its my personnal opinion.

Long life to PC

I tell you, one of the larger dlc packs are better than the three small ones combined. You won't regret it. :)

I agree :)

There are good arguments to say im a "Planet Coaster Fanboy" and i will probably buy whatever they put out there... But i still have my opinions ofcourse and i can agree that the 3 small dlc's we had feel a littlebit out of place. Spooky / Adventure are way better packs that realy contribute to the Planet Coaster feeling.

Same here. The three car packs were way too specific, and the parts aren't really useful to the casual builder.
I haven't used anything from them yet. However, I don't regret the purchase.

These large DLC packs? Totally worth the coin, and keep them coming!!!

I'll eventually pick up the Munsters as I think that fits in with the spooky theme nicely. I won't likely ever pick up Knight Rider or Back to the Future because those don't fit in as naturally with the other themes as the Munsters can.

But you’ll be SOL if you download stuff like Fisherman’s Midnight Manor, he used something from the Future pack. Which means you can open the park but not be able to save it. If you download vehicles from the workshop that used tires from one of the sets would you be able to subscribe to them?

Truth be told, I fell in love with this entire genre way back in 2004 with the release of RTC3.. - That was over thirteen years ago!
I loved the game so much that I became a beta tester for the "Soaked" & "Wild" expansion packs in the days of RCT3; and even helped pioneer (in my own way) quite a number of special effects via the in-game fireworks editor; including fogs, ground mists, storm clouds, fire-flies, and even a great big tornado!

(I still like to think that some of my "Special Effects" with the firework editor helped inspire the similar effects in the "Soaked" and "Wild" expansion packs... ) [wink]

To get back to your question: "How long can we expect Planet Coaster to grow?"

I see Frontier watching the community a LOT and drawing tons of inspiration, critique, and ideas from the community. [happy] The fact that they are so involved with their fans just keeps making the game that much better!

So far as I personally can see, It's been growing for a very long time, and is still growing; Thanks to todays fans of Planet Coaster, as well as all the dedicated fans and Frontier staff that I still recognize from all those years ago.

Frontier and their fans have always been very passionate about the theme-park simulation genre for a very long time. I honestly can't see that ending anytime soon.
In one way or another, thie heart of this game has never really stopped evolving; and I'm sure it will keep going for quite some time!
"Simulation Evolved" is not just a slogan. It's their heart, mantra, and goal- and that's why I still really love this game.
