General For Real

Was thinking about space being more dangerous. Supernova, black hole and other star life transitions, comets, rogue bodies, gravity waves, station disasters, dark matter/energy, nebula effects?

All well and good, but this is stuff that people have wanted for years. There should be more to the game than just jumping, but I doubt that Fdev have the expertise to just bung these things in on demand.

Also, the plural is supernovae.

Edit: Station disasters used to happen with the Thargoids, but they've retreated for now, and nobody knows when they're coming back en masse.

A Supernova isn't that common to occur, would be nice to even "predict one" every so often. Blow up a star far out, even if we detonate one ever 1 month, it will be a long time until we start missing some.
Black holes could be interesting portals, maybe even like a hyper gate to a distant place, with some RNG factor, and you'd have to navigate it, like an interdiction, just with more hazards.
Nebula effects would be awesome too, just too bad they would have little to none actual effect to players in the bubble.

Space is dangerous enough, just jump to Shin in open in your explorer exploder 😜

Also how would people cope with their unshielded or 3d shielded Asps?

The salt will be glorious...

It used to be we would enter systems at a certain distance from the target star, this led to dangerous situation like appearing between two stars that were very close together and if you weren't quick you could kicked out of SC and take serious damage and sometimes destruction. The game has been adjusted so that we now usually appear in the system further away from the target star if it is a close binary, I'll give you one guess why that was done!

My guess they did not look at the jump destination and see if it had single star or multiple stars? Then they cry foul when they died or almost died?

Whatever they did, enough of them complained that the approach was nerfed for close binaries, I sometimes have to fly towards the star for fuel scooping. It still happens sometimes with complex multi-star systems, try jumping into "Les Enfants Terribles" system for instance (Hypumaea PN-T e3-2), but it's rare enough not it doesn't really count as a danger.

I played Elite when it first came out on my Amiga so once a friend told me about Horizons I was all in. It always reminded me of Tradewars until now. The remarkable effort in realism pulls me in and makes me want more. We see all this crazy stuff happening in our own solar system like comets crashing into planets and moons. Maybe i'm saying it's too predictable and maybe that's the way most like it? Either way i'm on board and enjoying the ride wherever the destination.

Time is another factor but that may be too much. I mean we are already dealing with speeds way outside reality as we know it. The point is valid tho and just another item on the list of possibilities.
