That said, I'd like to invest in some new hardware. I have a vulture already, but given I prefer speed and acceleration, would anyone recommend a Clipper or FDL as an up/sidegrade? I'd appreciate some thoughts as I don't get a whole lot of playtime and rather not lose the 10% on sale. Thank you!

FDL is much heavier than the Viper and has no where near the vertical/lateral acceleration because of this. That said, it's more maneuverable than any ship of similar mass and it's rotational performance compares well to the Viper. The FDL is also only about 5-10m/s slower.
The Clipper has some of the worst vertical/lateral acceleration found anywhere, but is solidly the second fastest ship in the game and has a very good pitch rate.
