for the new year I offer you a oddity: a yellow star with a ring

Fantastic, was it made up of "stuff", asteroids up close and personal? Great to see, have yet to see a disk around a star. thanks for posting.

Sadly, disks around stars are not well implemented ATM, meaning that you cannot see their type (rocky, icy etc.) even if you use a surface scanner. I hope the devs will correct this with an update as I want to mine while basking in the warm glow. :)

thanks and yes, it was made of stuff ;)
though I didn't go too close to see it since the level of danger rise sharply once you get in a huge asteroid belt near a star (which was actually spinning rather fast) and I have a LOT of cartographic data to sell so I need not to test my luck too much ;)

I'd like to advice any cmdr out there that lost everything or is angry about the remaining bugs (still few considering the size of what Frontier achieved) to simply take an adder and go exploring... the beauties out there will sooth your anguish I believe. (no need for huge jump range... my asp jumps at 35Ly but I've only done an average of 8Ly jumps all the way till now, and I'm 1000+ Ly from Alioth...

Huge indeed, if you did go too far in at high velocity, it might take an eternity to get back out, whether the bodies were far apart or not. You are over 1000+ LY from civilization, wow, that's some distance, in which direction towards the galacitc center? Do you ever get lonely? ;)

They really need to fix the lighting on the stellar rings so that they are illuminated all the way around.

You absolutely need to go back and take some screenshots from inside that belt!

naah ;)
Last time I've entered a ring that size, I got stuck in it for 1 hour and barely made it out.
My 16Gb graphic card worked for 30 min just to calculate and make it appear, so as to allow me to know which direction to go to get out of it ;)
... and the cheer mass of the thing basically forbids entering into super-cruise within range of it... so the only solution then is to super-cruise outside towards a neighboring system to then come back in. And that was not even a belt surrounding a M class star... but only a Y class dwarf.

anyway. too much to lose right know to try entering this one :D
