For the original (old school) Elite players

I spent countless hours playing the original Elite throughout the mid 80's (Amstrad, C64 and Amiga) and last night I got to try out ED for the first time on my PS4 Pro with the HOTAS. Boy was I surprised how similar felt to the original old school Elite but with a WHOLE LOT MORE content and options. I felt comfortable with docking and combat very quickly, and it feels like I still have muscle memory from the '80s that's kicking in at times. This is going to be a blast!

When I first played on PC at launch I just flew by that slot pitched over the top rolled a little and straight through the slot.
Vector graphics or fully rendered graphics you still have your license from the Pilot Federation :)

Just wait to you get your Cobra MKIII back !

Welcome to the club! :)

Just one advantage of playing the original ELITE, soon as you start ED all those memories of crashing into a station come flooding back so great times are to be had. Great to have a returning player and enjoy the void.

Well to be fair it's all made significantly easier by being able to use lateral thrusters for positioning, back in the day we were stuck with pitch and roll only which made things somewhat more interesting :D

I made Elite in the 84 game on the Sinclair Spectrum. 25 years later it still took me 7 Sidewnders to get out of the station.

lol, sorry for laughing but that just struck me as so funny. :)
Don't worry, you'll get better with practice (yesterday it was taking me 35-40 seconds to dock, today I'm docking in around 20!)

I'm an old fogey too, bought original Acorn BBC Model B Elite in 84. Elite Dangerous is bringing all those wonderful feelings back!

The DC was a requirement back then so it's considerably easier today and does feel like you are cheating, i guess it's hard to explain to newer players at just how difficult it was especially without thrusters.

Two years later I am an accomplished smuggler with over 300million in assets to my name. I only get to play about once a week, but really enjoy every moment. The last two Sidewinders I lost one that first day, were due to deploying weapons, inside the station.

Newb question after only an hour of actual game-play, but the "Auto-docking sequence" message in your vid, are you flying in hot manually, and then cutting over to the docking computer at the last minute, once you're above the landing pad?

Go to '0' throttle as soon as I know that I am inside the slot. That way the D.C. takes over and put me on the pad. If you '0' throttle too early, the D.C. can reverse you back out the slot again.
