for those looking for a hardcore space sim, has ED just become a stopgap for SC?

with the implementation of PP, in my opinion, ED has lost it's way. It's now far more of a conquest/board/stat piling-for-no reason game, with pvp/space exploration or anything really related to space really regulated to a back seat to the PP dynamic.
.
I haven't logged into SC for a few weeks. I know they're "almost done (tm)" with the game, and that we're not going to see it until at least next year, but anyone getting more and more anxious about SC?
I'm really hoping they don't take the wrong turns this game hasn't. If so... I have a lightly used warthog that will go up in the for sale sect ion soon.

Well, it's nice if E: D to go first to give Cloud Imperium something to look at and cherry pick the best ideas from. It may or may not turn out to be a better game than E: D, I'm certainly expecting it to be a better 'space-flight' simulation than E: D, I'm also expecting it to have ship designs I like a lot less than E: D. Oh, and a lot fewer stars than E: D. :)
.
(If you like space games, it's not really an either/or thing is it? Most of us are probably going to play E: D, Star Citizen, Limit Theory, No Man's Sky, Rogue Squadron etc. etc. anyway?)

yeah, some of the designs are a bit .. meh. But some of them are coming along really well... just wish they'd just get off the pot and release the game already.

If you go and buy that great Orion Mining Platform or whatever it is, then SC can be released a day earlier!

I'd be more interested as to how all of the modules fit in with the 'persistent universe', which is the big 'elephant in the asteroid belt' to me. Oh, you do realise this thread is just going to end up merged with the great SC threads in the 'other space games' bit at the bottom of the forum, don't you? :)

Yeah.. I bit and "backed" way too many ships... even got a model of the connie (waste of time). But I've learned my lesson.
There are actually quite a few people that spent $5k on that package. . Hoping it's not all hot air.

I'm a backer of SC. And in for quite a bit of money, because it's very much a game I want to play - a kind of game I want to see come back to prominence - and therefore I have been happy to support its development.

But even when it's out, I expect I'll still spend some of my time playing Elite: Dangerous.

There are things about this game, and about its scale, that SC will never have. Which is fine, because SC is going to be a very different game. I expect it to be an excellent one, but it will be very different from this one. Which is all to the better, because I get to have my cake and eat it, too.

I didn't realize there was a forum for that. Whatever, I posted this mostly in frustration after trying PP and realizing it's a silly board game that now drives ED .

Another thread? wasn't the "Is elite a simulator, mmorpg, board game or something else?" enough? As you're essentially covering the same area (or very similar at least)

I know what you're saying .. I played star wars online for a while.. been looking for a viable replacement for that , ED was a good start. I'm hoping SC delivers, it looks like everything I miss about SWGO

It hasn't lost it's way. We don't yet even completely understand what EDs way is. Perhaps the developers don't yet know either. However, I like what they've been changing. You can completely ignore the strategic layer that is Power Play. Your perception is completely made up from what seems to be your bias toward Star Citizen.

No, I'm not anxious about SC. I'm completely ignoring it until it is an actual game instead of a group of ever increasing concepts and will never deliver on it's ridiculous crowd funded budget. Can it be a good game? Of course it can. Can it be, however many millions now, good? I doubt it.

I see no reason why I couldn't enjoy both regardless of worth or content. I enjoy space games. I'm not a fan boy for either games past or future.

Everyone needs their own soapbox to talk from full of personalized responses. It's never enough man, for I am special.

The answer to that is clearly no.
Neither are anywhere near space sim really.

Now this below however.

From what I played of SC it no more hardcore sim than Elite Frontiere.
To me I see no reason why you or anyone else can't completely ignore PP. I have and will probably continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

Balls! I just realise I wrote 'Rogue Squadron' in my post above, not 'Rogue System'! :D

After paying for a ton of ships that I cant even fly yet, i hope for the best for SC. But ED is more up my alley as far as gameplay. Elite Dangerous is tne game i always wanted to play with even more to come. I didn't like PP at first but have come to understand it and I am loving it now. in a persistent universe with 400 billion stars you can actually fly to ( Sc will prob have what? 10? lol ) PP seems to make the most sense to me. I've been playing since PB and even after ( if ) SC comes out I will still be playing alot of Elite Dangerous.

This game looks awesome, and is developed by one guy.

I was just about to say, did both games become hardcore sims when I wasn't paying attention.

Both SC and ED are good in there own ways, just choose the one that you find more fun.

It's not really rocket science. (Pun intended)

Also thanks, I'll keep an eye on Rouge System, hopefully it doesn't go all Battlecruiser 3000 on us.

Although I backed ED at the premium beta level for over £100. I'm a big fan of Chris Roberts titles and was following SC before it was announced, even have my golden ticket. And backed that for easy £500+

Fact of the matter is, I haven't touched SC in almost a year.
And I likely won't touch it till its at least in an alpha/beta complete form.
Personally I feel it's actually lost its way, a whole vanguard of promises that many are next to impossible to actually implement. I have high hopes for it and no doubt in my mind that it will be a good game, I just feel it's going to be too much of an MMO centred around character/account management, and other cool on paper micromanagement functions that turn out to be rather tedious in game.
I look forward to it and would love to be proven wrong! But either way, there will always be room for a little elite in my life!
