Engineers Forced switching out of full screen mode to desktop - launcher content update

Not sure if this is Horizons or Engineers, as I came back to game new to both both - but previously, never had this issue.

So question - anyone know how to avoid being forced out of full screen mode game every time the launcher has a content refresh pushed to it?

e.g. I launch the launcher, launch game and minimize launcher - so launcher is definitely minimized, not an active window. However, in game, whenever it seems the launcher has a new notice pushed to it, like a notice about the new mining challenge, I get abruptly yanked out of full screen game and back to desktop.

I can easily switch back, but lose a few critical seconds where 'bad things' could happen while out of screen but still in game. I thought at first it was as easy as just minimizing the launcher screen - but nope, same issue.

I guess I will try just shutting down the launcher after game is started and see if that helps.

I don't get that anyway, but after you have the game running, you can alt-tab back and quit the launcher (at least, you used to be able to).

Is this causing the game to go black for a minute and then I have the SYSTEM mouse pointer on my screen? I have been backing out to the desktop and then using Task Manager to reselect the ED client. I submitted a ticket about this to FD, but it never went anywhere. They never suggested that the launcher could be causing these glitches.

My game doesn't drop out leaving me seeing the desktop. It seems to jump to the desktop for a split second and then back into the game, pulling the System Mouse Cursor along with it. Unless I back out to the desktop and reselect the ED client window, I have the system mouse pointer in the middle of my game screen forever, until I quit the game!

I use the Xbox One Elite Controller for my game controller on the PC. I don't use the mouse at all.

So, will quitting the launcher after the game is up and running prevent this?

As FYI and update - quitting the launcher after game starts solved this.

start launcher --> start game --> alt tab to desktop and quit launcher --> back to game

otherwise, any content refresh to launcher causes the forced out of full screen issue. Which seems to be about 1-2x a day given frequency of launcher news, posts, etc updates.

Glad it still works. Give it a try GG7, it might help you too.
Personally the launcher has never caused me an issue so I don't know, but its worth a try.

I never even wait till the game's loaded, just close the launcher as soon as the Play button disappears (it won't let you click the X for a second or two anyway)

Thanks! I just backed out and quit the launcher and will see if I get any more of this issue. It always seemed to happen within the first hour of launching the game for the first session, so when you guys were mentioning the launcher getting push updates, it definitely sounded like a likely cause for my issue. Even though I am not getting dropped back to the desktop visually, the fact that the system cursor is getting carried back into the game sure sounds like it went there for a split second while the screen was blacked out. I also get an audible pop in my rear 7.1 speakers when the screen does this.

I will report back and whether this was the solution for me too.

GLAD I saw this thread! I have been trying to get to the bottom of this for months!

I've never had this problem. I play on two screens, using the larger of my 2 for the playing and the other for the launcher screen and forum screen or other online screen. But I use Chrome and have Cable internet.

Yea I'm not sure why the problem started, have same OS as when I played through 1.4. And in Windows of all versions at least, a modal screen isn't supposed to interrupt a full screen app or program. So whether minimized or on desktop the launcher should have behaved as before but something changed after I upgraded to launcher that comes when you upgrade to horizons.

What connected the issue for me was when I noticed every time I got booted back out to desktop from full screen elite mode, was the launcher had some new post or news item. Again not hugely frequent, like 1-2x a day for past couple days and for all I know could be weeks with no news item but for now seemed like semi regular updates.

anyway, quitting the launcher after game start is no big deal so just doing that as workaround
