Formidine Rift - Partially solved?

So whilst waiting for 2.2 to drop I've been looking into the formidine rift mystery and it's clues.

I'll paraphrase because I'm too lazy to quote and source.

Drew has said that the basis of the term formidine was take from the Latin word formido, which means fear or dread. Coupled with a tale from his book Elite: Reclamation (which I have d/loaded on many kindle recently but not yet read) about those who have gone past the formidine rift haven't lived to tell the tale.

After some thought my take on this is simple: You jump through too many un-scoopable stars to ever return, the fear of death is imminent, and it explains why noone has ever returned.

Drew also said that he hopes one lone wolf will discover the mystery, but it will likely be an en-masse effort. Now, is it possible to actually survive the trip past the rift, by an en-masse rescue/suicide effort with fuel limpets? Continuous drops of fuel to help a CMDR otherwise out of fuel?

It is a possibility worth exploring. . .

There's a thread for the FR knocking about already. Drew did say that you could get there from the day the game was released. W didn't have fuel limpets until 1.3 so it won't be necessary. We can also jump further now and Drew did say that Engineers might make it easier to find what we're looking for.

Great points.

However that would only imply that CMDRs couldn't return at the beginning, whereas now it may be possible. It may well have always been intended to be a one-way trip. . .

With modded FSD's and Jumponium you can cross the Rift literally anywhere now and go beyond it to the last few reachable stars out on the galactic rim. The 'Fear' of being stranded out there died when FD made traveling even easier than it already was.

Good point. Prior to jumponium there were defiantly no go areas out there. The Poseidal Wall being the first recorded one.
