Formidine Rift Tour Suggestions

Hey All,

I'm on a little expedition out to the Formidine Rift, currently parked just outside the Heart & Soul nebulas. I have the locations of the lost bases out here which are my next stop after a tour of the nebulas, and then the mysterious mega ship with a loop back to the Bubble nebula on my way home, but while I was down this way I was wondering if there is anything else I must/should check out?

Any recommendations? Cool systems, planets, other settlements etc

I know there is a tonne of info/lore in the mega thread, so going to look over all that again and have a general plod around the area, but couldn't find anything searching around for what else might be worth checking out down here as a tourist so to speak.

Oh and one more question while I am down this way, is there a southern most point similar to Beagle Point in the north?

Cheers,
AD

Update: Preliminary List (In rough order):
Bubble Nebula
Heart & Soul Nebulae
RS Persei (Red Giant w/ landable planet in the fuel scoop zone)
CoR Listening Post Alpha - EAFOTS EU-R C4-1 A C2 (-34.2057, -77.6673)
CoR Listening Post Beta - EAFOTS LZ-H B10-0 D1 (-23.0613, -174.8850)
CoR Listening Post Gamma - EAFOTS RA-G B11-0 3 (-17.8731, -76.0522)
CoR Listening Post Delta - EAFOTS GL-Y E2 A1 6 (21.2838, 19.0682)
NGC 281 Nebula (BD+55 191 - 4 O Class Stars with one landable planet)
Rho Cassiopeiae (Supergiant star) (Route tips here) then head south across the Posiedal Wall to:
Zurara Megaship - SYREADIAE JX-F C0 (Near west end of Rift)
Small Backtrack at this point back easterly to:
Heisenberg Crossing Route across to outer arm - Myoideau RF-N C20-1 to Hypoae Aescs YE-R D4-2 (https://www.edsm.net/en/galactic-rou...Formidine+Rift) Will cut first section out and jump into route at approx Phroae Hypa PE-B B6-0 then small detour to:
Maia's Jewell - Schee Hypa KN-S E4-0 (Herbig Protostar)
Lumina Caelum - Hypoae Aescs AA-A H0 (Pair of Wolf-Reyet stars) **Note: Does not appear accessible**
Then follow Heisenberg Crossing Route to end, and continue south.
Vig's Beacon - Vigs AA-A E1 (Brightest star in dark area)
Point Decision Aicods KD-K D8-3 (Historical PONR)

From there I see where the stars take me, further south then perhaps once I find my limits head back up the Perseus Arm to:

Opposites Black Hole - Smaidou ZE-A G0 (Rare BH in the area)
Spongou Nebula
PZ Cassiopeiae (HIP 117078)
Explorers' End - Phae Phlai AA-A H0 (Far end of the FR before the Bovomit Badlands to the east)
Then either head deeper east towards Star One or head home via Jmanis Bridge back toward Sol..

On a similar note, can anyone recommend a good place to get *started* with Raxxla in-game? Like a listening post, or comms beacon, or something?

Me and some friends are about to do a small expedition to the rift also, so i would be interested in this too.

I'm making a circuit of the galaxy starting in Hawking's Gap which I am currently visiting, then on to the eastern edge, on to Beagle Point, then back through the core and then the Conflux. I'll come back to human space and make the trip to the Rift and Colonia afterwards on my second trip. I'm interested in this as well.

Absolutely must visit the bubble nebula. It's the absolute best place in the galaxy in my opinion. It's very near.

Glad to hear! I didn't notice it soon enough not to have a 6k ly detour so going to grab a look-see on my way back as I mentioned.

Doesn't look like the area is well explored so far. About 50% of the systems in the area seem to be unexplored so perhaps there hasn't been too many CMDRs down this way? Perhaps its why there hasn't been too many responses to the thread, or maybe its just a boring area of space haha!

Cheers

Someone told me that there's riches to be had in Bovomit, and there's lots of interesting things in there. You just have to solve the secret for how to get in.

I can suggest going as far "South", it's an incredible view of the galaxy, and it's very black out there...

Nah, more like Formidine Rift overload... Some of us spent many, many months out there. Check out the Formidine Rift thread...

Now that the hype is over I decided to head to the Rift too. Taking a break from the whole Thargoid mess.

I also wanted to test my DBX for long range super charge capabilities. Have been exploring way too long in the Conda.

Any route / sightseeing tips appreciated.

I spent a bit more time digging deeper into the FR mega thread info & spreadsheets last night. Found a couple more things to check out as you head past the abandoned outposts and mega ship out to the darker regions & outer arm. I don't have them on hand as they are on my gaming PC at home, but will update the thread with what I found this evening (for what it may be worth).

That would be great OP. I've tried reading the Formidine Rift thread a few times, and I still don't get it.

I may not be the target audience for this aspect of the game, because I just don't understand the context around the Formidine Rift. Do I need to read Drew Wagar’s novel “Elite: Reclamation” to understand *why* I'd want to head to there in the first place?

Like, I get that there are 'things' to discover there, but is there anything in-game that would suggest a reason for me to want to look there in the first place? Is there a story? A starting system? A GalNet article?

Where do I start? :S

Good luck with that - the thread was surreptitiously locked in the forum reorg and nobody (to my knowledge) is answering questions as to why.

The general assumption is that this means there's nothing more to be found.

Not necessarily down there to uncover something new :), just taking a little 'tour' & want to make sure I don't miss anything interesting while I am down this way. Cross it off my bucket list while I wait for the core improvements next year & this alien stuff to finish. As nanite2000 mentioned, its all too confusing to figure out where to start, the mega thread certainly lives up to its name lol... From what I gathered too, the mystery had been solved (happy to be corrected by someone in the know), and it lead to that Salome story some months back, which lead to our Alien storyline now.

Exactly!

For example, if I go to Maia, there is a listening post there and a Maia Herald article in all the StarPorts which point me to star systems where I can start unfolding the Thargoids story that ultimately leads to the spectacular galactic map room.

Is there something equivalent for the Formidine Rift story, even if it is now finished?

The thread is pretty thick.

I find it more convenient to pick the route via EDSM (https://www.edsm.net). Just turn on the POI in the map and filter the interesting sights. Everything about Salome and the Rift is there.

Yes please. Me and some friend are heading over there to meet up in a couple of days and see the bases and the mega ship. I also dont wanna miss a thing out there hehe. If anyone wants to meet up just send FR (cmdr same as forum).

I m at the bubble nebula atm and i will visit heart n soul shortly.

Thanks for the tip! Took me a while to figure out where to find the POI but got there! :)

Looks like I had uncovered most of the POI in the area comparing to the Map. Here is the list I have so far (should be in rough order of travel):

Bubble Nebula
Heart & Soul Nebulae
CoR Listening Post Alpha - EAFOTS EU-R C4-1 A C2 (-34.2057, -77.6673)
CoR Listening Post Beta - EAFOTS LZ-H B10-0 D1 (-23.0613, -174.8850)

CoR Listening Post Delta - EAFOTS GL-Y E2 A1 6 (21.2838, 19.0682)
NGC 281 Nebula (BD+55 191?)
Rho Cassiopeiae (Supergiant star) then head south across the Posiedal Wall to:
Zurara Megaship - SYREADIAE JX-F C0 (Near west end of Rift)
Small Backtrack at this point back easterly to:
Heisenberg Crossing Route across to outer arm - Myoideau RF-N C20-1 to Hypoae Aescs YE-R D4-2 (https://www.edsm.net/en/galactic-routes/show/id/2/name/Heisenberg+Bridge,+Formidine+Rift) Will cut first section out and jump into route at approx Phroae Hypa PE-B B6-0 then small detour to:

Then either head deeper east towards Star One or head home via Jmanis Bridge back toward Sol..

Then perhaps track down the Salome Listening Posts? :p

I haven't traveled the route yet, so only a suggested route at this point, but might help some of you also heading out this way. Should cover most things :)

Edit: This spreadsheet was also handy from the mega thread (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...FiI7YqGtPATAO3XJG82o-Iy-hQ/edit#gid=871100635)

I asked a question like this about Hawking's Gap and nobody gave me anything, so I went to the Dynasty expedition outposts and started moving out towards the rim.

On my way out to Rho Cassiopeiae today after visiting the missing settlements yesterday. Starting to get a bit more sparse out here!

Heads up to those visiting ... Little disappointing to see the same assets used on the Alpha & Beta sites both called Hobbes Hope(?). Beta site also is broken with only 3 of the 6 logs able to be accessed too. Delta site has audio issues with an extremely loud (like REALLY LOUD!) reverberating rumble of sorts like there is a fleet of Thargoid ships hovering above & below or something. Had to turn my sound off till I left. On the up side, it looks like those scans earned 8mil or so if I make it back.

Hopefully get out to the missing mega ship by end of today and then deeper into the black.

The "Hobbe's Hope" and missing logs is an issue affecting several ground based settlements:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/379203-Missing-Comms-Uplinks-at-abandoned-settlements

Please add your comment to that thread to get it noticed and resolved by Frontier.

The sound issue is not one I've heard reported before. You should report that as a bug too, because Frontier made some changes to the sound design in 2.4 and wanted people to let them know if/when they identify any issues.

As an aside, thanks for the list of POI's in your earlier post. I'm going to head out that way next year after they've released the new planetary surface upgrades.
