I was given the nickname 'Mole' or 'Moley' nearly 40 years ago in the Army. Unlike civilian or school nicknames, Army or services names are taken as a matter of pride and acceptance. You're not really in until you've been given your first nickname...mine stuck.
It's how I introduce myself and I'm not known as anything else in RL except by my bank manager and my mother who still insist on using my given name....or ex forces associates and Regimental associations who pointlessly call me 'Sir' or 'Sergeant Major'; long after the rank and meaning have sunk into obscurity.
I added the HD (for internet use) after I dyed my beard bright red a few years ago...High Definition. All my avatars and characters in games are named as such with the exception of female characters....they assume my wife's given name through preference
My Cmdr name for E-D is the same on Xbox/PC and on the forum.
So, Mole HD isn't just an internet alias, it's me [yesnod]
