Found myself 'out in the cold'

After several days of just heading in one direction I managed to run out of fuel and I self-destructed (I posted a previous thread about this). However I've found myself in a situation where I'm just in the middle of nowhere and routes I'm plotting back to (for example) SOL are just unobtainable. What would you do?

Can't you go back the way you came from?
Or is it an issue with forgetting to filter scoopable stars only and not being able to scoop from your current location?

Ouch, I put myself in that position once, still running but all star systems are out of jump range (at least that's what it sounds like). Fraid it's time to hit self destruct.

I'm in an Eagle with no scoop unfortunately. I was trying to make my way to New Yembo where the new starport is under construction but I ran out of fuel in what seemed like a massive area without any systems with space stations. When I self-destructedand came back I found myself in a location I didn't recognise but now the route back to SOL has broken lines on it which mean my jump range is exceeded.

So you spawned in a starport after self destruct, and can't leave that system because you've got no fuel?
Don't you respawn with a full tank of fuel?

If you've got a full tank of gas, maybe you need to dump fuel to be able to jump to the next system.
How far is the next system and what is your jump range?

But that is exactly the issue - I'm in an area where there are no starports and I'm trying to get back to one!

Did I read it correctly you went to New Yembo, the new 'Explorers Station' way out beyond any other inhabited systems? Isn't it somewhere around 200ly from any other settled system? Did you therefore make it to New Yembo, but can't plot a route back? Buy a fuel scoop so you CAN scoop fuel to get yourself back.

If you are stranded somewhere 'half way' then try dumping some cargo, the reduction in mass should extend your jump range.

Otherwise, it will be 'self destruct', then respawn at xxx (New Yembo???). If this IS the case I suggest the first thing you do is purchase a fuel scoop!

I'll have to see what I can do,
I don't have any cargo bays so I might have to dump equipment.
It's not the fuel I'm short of it's the jump range.

So let me get this right. You somehow managed to GET to New Yembo, refitted your ship with some extra gizmo's, and now you find the ship won't give you the jump range you need to make it across some/several of the spaces between stars?

On your Galaxy map is the option for Navigation set to ECONOMICAL ROUTES or FASTEST ROUTES? Economical will get you A LOT FURTHER that fastest overall, but relies on LOTS of short jumps being available.

If you still don't have the jump range, then you have to strip down your ship to the lightest possible to give you the ability to make longer jumps. DO away with any gear you really don't need just to get you back to inhabited systems..... if you make it! Remember, NPC interdictions will happen up to about 500ly away from any settled system, and I believe New Yembo is within this area! If it does happen, just submit, all pips to engines, and then BOOST, BOOST, BOOST and then SC away. Once in SC then go for the hyperjump. Using the FSD to jump up to SC is a lot quicker than going through the FSD charge to hyperjump.

Keep Hyperjumping - and scooping if you've bought a fuel scoop - until you get back to somewhere with a station you can dock at!

Thanks for all the replies. I actually traded my Eagle for a Cobra, however the jump range on it was crap and I couldn't afford decent weapons and power upgrades so I swapped back to the Eagle and I've been a bit more savvy with weight and stuff.
I still can't plot a route to New Yembo from where I am using fast or economy routes because it just exceeds the jump range so I'll just have a wander about bounty hunting. I've only got 150k credits 'in the bank' from this but I choose to do it because I'm rubbish at trading.
