Edit: I should probably and correctly give the link to where I found it:

I find it amazing that you can actually have such an amazing view of the milky way from earth! I assume it is done with a very low shutter speed.

And I was also kind of shocked, because became once again conscious of the fact that Elite is indeed modelling reality. Can we still talk about a game, or should be rethink and transform this term to "virtual reality"?

Yes, that is absolutely amazing. Especially when you're taking into account that you're actually 'looking back in time'. I've always loved watching the night sky, I even was a volunteer at a local astronomy station here - they had amazing telescopes that were awesome for watching planets, nebula and other things.

Related, I had the same thing when I re-watched Prometheus last night. I am one of those people that really love that film, and I think the visuals in that movie are absolutely astounding, especially the 'space' and other exploration shots. Frontier has really gotten the atmosphere and 'mood' right in Elite: Dangerous. Playing the game makes me want to see sci-fi movies, and watching sci-fi movies makes me want to play the game!

Exploring the galaxy is going to be *fun*. :)

... just remember how DB said somewhere that Elite will upscale its graphics along with increasing CPU/GPU power. So, expect that one day, Elite will look similar to the pictures you just posted. :)

The previous entries in the Alien saga clouds my judgement, so I can't appreciate Prometheus on a proper level. But i know beauty when I see it. Thank the heavens for that.

Nice examples there. We need more blue HUD elements methinks. *cough* ;)

I'm actually already *very* happy with the way Elite currently looks. It already feels very immersive to me. I wonder what would happen if I added HOTAS and/or Oculus to the mix... I wouldn't want to leave the game, I think.

I am a big fan of the original quadrilogy - I love it how all of the films in there have their own director and 'style'. Great imagery in those films as well, definitely. I love Prometheus as well though. I felt it was an exciting and mostly 'smart' movie, and I'm looking forward to learn more about the announced 'Paradise' sequel indeed. It's the space exploration and 'going to unknown places' that I really love.

About those HUD elements, there's an interesting forum thread on that. I like the current Elite: Dangerous color palette, but it would make many players happy if HUD colors could be customised, or chosen. More choice is always good. :)

Space Opera is cool, but movies or stories about space endeavors like exploration, catastrophe-prevention, mystery, etc. are the things I'm interested in.

Looking at the lush visuals or specific styles that filmmakers use are inspiring and immersive.

Hope ED will have visuals that look as photo-realistic and immersive as those in film (without the mega budgets).

I'm the Space Opera type, sadly. But it doesn't hurt looking at pretty things while at it. One could argue that makes you less appreciative of opera as an art, only going for the dramatic setting, the costumes and the props. It is perhaps not the best approach, but it is better than to not plot a course at all. :)

My favourite site for space related pics (and sometimes videos) is Astronomy Picture of the Day. Believe it's something to do with NASA but there's hundreds, if not thousands, of pics in their archive and some of them are simply stunning.

Oh and I am a massive Alien/Aliens/Alien 3 fan but 4 was utter pants and Prometheus just tried too hard to be clever and ended up having some utterly stupid moments in it (IMO).

Still I will never tire of seeing Charleze Theron soaking wet, wrapped in what looks like bandages doing press ups so it has good parts too.

Wow, I'd forgotten about that cockpit and now I REALLY want it!

I knew palm trees grew in space..i knew it!

There is a certain brilliant sci-fi movie that has a couple. Absolutely wonderful. Now *this* would be an amazing sight to behold, when we get our planetary landings in a future expansion. Please make it so, mister Braben. :)
