Found this..

Reading this makes a lot of sense. I hope people don't take this in a negative light as this is a really positive move. It shows Frontier moving forward as a group and if the speculation is right which is reported on into the publishing business which is great from our perspective as it would mean all our games and expansions would be coming from a company that we know and have funded personally, this would mean no need for EA, ACTIVISION so they will be able to continue to make the game how they want to make the game. The company has shown in that small area that it is profitable and they are willing to work with other manufacturers and also that they are willing to acquire other companies to help them in their goal.

What isn't mentioned is how much float the company is putting on the market and shareholders will expect returns. I'm sure other news will come out soon about the role of shareholders within frontier, if that information comes from within frontier (which would be better for everyone) along with the initial share price and amount available with percentages released (how much of the company is floated) I wish them the greatest of luck in this venture as I said it shows a forward thinking company that knows its business plan and how to implement it. it could also raise a hell of a lot of cash for not only this game and it's expansions but also into the future for any other projects that frontier may want to make.

Sounds risky? Which i guess is part of the Capitalism thing, but what's to stop a large 3rd party with a competing software/game on the market from buying up enough shares to stall Frontiers own work (i.e. put Elite 4 on the back burner) etc.

This move kind of goes into my concerns i've listed about the cost of modern AAA development skyrocketing because of the push towards graphical realism. Are FD pushing too hard to make Elite look so good they have no choice but to float and hope it raises the money they need to finish the game?

So it's a 50/50 good news/bad news reveal for myself.

Well, if the wealthy part of the fanbase, are afraid of that. They should go buy some of those shares. Then they can maybe also make a buck while they are at it.

For a start it would be cripplingly expensive to do that. Secondly Frontier will be unlikely to expose enough shares for that to happen.

And thirdly we can all buy the shares and make Frontier our puppet! ;)

Hugely important news from my perspective is the line "It is moving towards more self-publishing on more devices and away from an over-reliance on publishers, one of which it blames for the failure of 'The Outsider', a major game for the studio which was discontinued because of a lack of money." I was very disappointed when I heard The Outsider got shelved. Interesting to hear that they blame publishers for this. Maybe one day we'll see another Kickstarter for it...

Looks like they are going to be on the London Stock Exchange on Monday morning. £1.27 per share is the price they will be starting at.

Any one fancy taking a risk?

I am probably going to bag some, and see where it goes.

I could be wrong, but I think the shares will be already taken. Michael said on the Kickstarter page that the IPO is oversubscribed, which I take to mean that the 'high-calibre investors' previously mentioned have already agreed to buy all of the shares Frontier are willing to sell, and the price has been set at 127p. I'll be checking on the day of listing, just in case, though.

Thanks for the quick answer, yes I just read that in the news forum...

Shame but like you I will look on Monday too...
