Founding Member of the Elite

OK, I'm a little bit confused. Does being a FMotE mean you automatically start with the Elite combat rating? Surely one of the most fun challenges in the game is to work from Harmless all the way to Elite on your own?

There's already a thread on this AND an entry in the FAQ :)!

But the short answer is no :p! If a normal person makes it all the way to ELITE ranking, they can join the ELITE foundation, with a bunch of perks. Founding members get those perks straight away (and more), but they start as harmless just like everyone else

OK, thanks for that. :)

I hope that any player will be able to do a mission for The Founders that takes them into the system and back so that they can see the amazing scenery. And I hope that there will be a way to join, a series of missions perhaps, maybe also requiring one or more sponsor members.

If you are a backer of the KS campaign then you will get yourself a decal (ship paint) that allows you into the Founder home world system.

You will not *be* a Founder unless you pledge £150+ but you can certainly visit their home world.

Ok I'm conflating the two a little. Is "The Elite" the name of the organisation? Are "The Founders" a subset of that? All Kickstarter members will be able to visit the Founders system.

So, I hope there will be a way for non-Kickstarter people to join The Elite, and that there be at least one (repeatable?) mission that they can do that takes them there and back.

AFAIK:

"The Elite" are the pilots who have attained the Elite combat rating. Anyone can become a member of The Elite by (from the original games) killing enough people. The same will be in ED.

"The Founders" were the original Elite and are treated as such in game. (So better prices, better missions, etc). However they don't start with Elite status and still work their way up. Once the KS campaign is over if you are not a Founder (AFAIK) there is no way to become one.

Only those who backed the KS campaign can find / visit the Founder home world. Evey one else who purchases the game via retail shops (once the game goes Gold) will not be able to visit the Founder home world.

Best I can give you.

I wouldn't be so sure of that last part. You can purchase a ship decal for £5 on ks atm which gives access to the system although you will have to find it as oppossed to starting there. Anyway, once the game is up and running, vanity items like decals are almost certainly going to be offered and possibly these will allow access also.

As an aside, you can always steal a ks decal ship and go there once game is up and running if DB is to believed ;)

That is exactly what I said  If you back the KS campaign (that includes the £5 deal) then you can find the Founder homeworld.

Retail are going to be able to get decals but they won't allow you into the Founder homeworld (according to Michael KS comments)

I've not said this on the KS comments because I am sure everyone will just gang up on me and shout me down,
but if having a KS decal allows you access to the Founder's system,
then what is the point in pledging £150 to be a founding member of the Elite?

Why be a founding member if any player with a KS decal can go there?

Those with a decal can enter (if they make it that far) whereas founders have the option to start from there?

@Alien: For the status, perks and better trade terms etc

+ a rather natty little golden logo ;)

Have to say intrigued to what one will find on the founders world that is so cool. Perhaps its somesort of guild of founders that offers all these exclusive missions and whatnot

I think there is a bit of confusion about this - not helped by FD having lots of things sounding similar. There are three things as I understand it:

1) Everyone who backs the game on Kickstarter is a "Founder" (Founder of the game) and get a decal to access the Founder Homeworld in game.

2) If you are on the £85 tier - you have the option to start at the founder home world, with some more credits due to location and potential danger.

3) If you are in the £150 tier - you are a founding member of the in-game "The Elite" group and get perks in the game (missions, discounts etc.). Other players can gain access to this group by becoming "Elite". (Group founders DO NOT start with Elite status though).

However it seems that ONLY backers of the Kickstarter will get the Founder System Access decals. This may open up later to players who perform certain missions etc. But I suspect it will be a bit exclusive initially.

An interesting question here: can you steal a Founder's ship? :D

Nice idea :D I'd love to do that. But what I'd really love to do is if the thargoids make an appearance is to steal one of their ships. Can you imagine the reaction you'd get when you entered the sol system!!!
