Four for Four broken missions

Other than the Restore missions to already active settlements in Thargoid recovery systems (I have learned to check and double-check, before taking any), I had a couple the other day, of the kind where the settlement is on fire, and in both cases the mission would not progress to the next stage, upon cranking the reactor.

I suspect the missions do not trigger due to interference with the Faction owning the settlement being in a negative state when got into Post-Thargoid recovery
Check my post above yours - eventually add your findings and list the faction and the state it was (if any)

I'm pretty much giving up on derelict ships and SRVs for power regulators. I think I've found one that wasn't damaged in the last 30 attempts. Relogging on settlements might spawn what you need for a mission, but the cupboards are bare of everything else you might want.

If I'm farming for regulators, I'll only take salvage missions in the system I'm in. When I find a ship without a path of destruction behind it, I'll do a maximum of 7 re-logs before giving up on it. The ships with wreckage behind them rarely have power regulators, but are more common than lone ships.

For Power Regulators, i do missions in the Post-Thargoid recovery systems.
Some mission there do offer 3, 4 or even 5 Power regulators as a reward (also suit and weapon schematics)

Edit:
Sure, when doing missions in such systems one needs to double check if the settlements are actually abandoned (x grey mark in sysmap or small x mark over the settlement icon in the navpanel) then check if the faction owning the settlement is not in a negative state that would lead to a "normal" shutdown with fires and bodies (civil unrest, pirate attack, terrorist attack, natural disaster or lockdown)
Navigating around bugs is a fun endeavour 😂

Thank you, I do the same, the very issue of the online settlements makes this very time consuming. I've found that in systems with 50% or higher online settlements are not worth doing as the almost, if not all on the board will be missions to online settlements. This is really disheartening when you se 2-3 missions for manufacturing instructions and they are all to online settlements. The system I worked last week had really poor mission rewards, rarely did I see anything with MIs and power regs were dropping fairly rarely.

Currently i'm based in HIP 21380
  • The good: plenty of settlements (57!!!), and since the system just got into PTR state, all of them are abandoned and all are triggering the missions since no faction is in a bad state
  • The bad: while there are quite a number of settlements near the primary, most of the them and all the good ones are around the B&C stars, 150k ls from drop off point
  • The good: the is an working outpost there, so i've set my Forward Operating Base at the outpost
  • The bad: the outpost has no refueling
  • The good: my ship has fuel scoop and the B star is scoopable
  • The bad: even tho all the good settlements are around B&C Stars (ext, ind, agri), i still find meself picking missions to settlements 150k ls away... i simply cannot resist to missions offering MI
  • The good: i can halve the traveling time jumping out of the system then back in, having to cover only the return to my FOB

All in all, there seem to be more goods than bads 😂

Oh the mission script triggered, alright -- I got the: "find the power station and start it up" bit, on approach to the settlement (come to think of it, it is possible that notification remained on screen, instead of fading away after a while - could be a UI lock problem if so, maybe, like the rescue contact quantity widget, rather than some state issue) -- it just didn't respond to that condition being fulfilled, by moving on to: "put out the fires".

Thanks for the ideas, though -- interesting to hear about what condtions lead to which missions and mission varieties being offered.

Well, yes - you do get the blue text for mission notification while on approach, but after landing, there is no mission objective in the upper right corner like insert the PR
And there should not be any fires and bodies since the PTR settlements are simply abandoned - so i guess this is the part the mission script is getting stuck

Heh, you haven't seen my commander yet! Looks like on old fart.
I have been to this system and am friendly with the main system faction, so all is good there.

Finished up Hero Ferrari this morning, did some engineering with her, I now have jump assist on 2 of my suits.

I am pretty sure I did have the mission objective info in the top right corner -- I retried one of those missions enough times, that it just about got burned into my retinas :p; It just never advanced from "find the power station".

It did remain a fire-and-carcasses variety mission, whether those should spawn at all, during the particular system state, but I can't recall if I could get them from the landing pad, or had to go to the concourse for them...

EDIT: ...on the other hand, a few hours since I wrote the above, I just had a regular fetch mission to a neighbouring, thargoid-free, system, where the settlement turned out to be offline and littered with corpses, and there I got no messages in the on-foot HUD info window... Tried to jumpstart a terminal and see whether there might be a mission objective indicator there, but no... :7

This. Just fix it Elite style: reset/relog and do the same thing again.
Works well for missions where you can easily check if everything matches up, but not so well if it could take a while, like in settlement massacre missions. That missing (or invisible/invincible) last NPC is always frustrating, and it seems to happen more often again. Fortunately I just do them for the kills these days, not for the mission reward.

Yes, also infuriating when the mission involves getting hit with 2 notoriety and knowing it will now be 4 thanks to needing to repeat the kills.

I'm finding tons of the scavengers you are tasked to kill being spawned or dropped underground. Which is fantastic given that they can kill you just fine from under the planet surface.

I think Elite needs a soft Relog button.
Since FDev is not willing (or not able, who knows) to fix these issues they could at least make it easier on the players who are more or less forced to do the relog boogie anyway.

Thanks for the tip, I worked 21380 pretty hard, last night the missions rewards and mat/data drops were rather meh, but I did get some power regulator missions and pretty much finished up my current engineering goals, getting to be time to head off and do the actual engineering. I need some power regulators to finish my last suit so I will likely just get and fail a bunch of missions if no power supply missions exist. But then again, the last slot in the that proposed suit build is night vision and it will be a while before I get that. And likely, 21380 is mostly giving out missions to powered up settlements. My feet are a itchin to be a movin and the galaxy is a callin!

This week i have my eyes on HIP 20492 and HIP 20899
I have not visited them yet, but they both look promising
Not very enthusiastic about either... Both have a lot of offline settlements, but the missions are poor. I went to Hip 20492 first, only 10 missions, but one was for power regulators so I took it. On the way out of the station, I decided to take a quick trip to HIP 20899. Only 2 restore missions in spite of me being friendly with the controlling faction.
Disappointed, I went to do the mission I got in HIP 20492, was majorly disappointed in the drop rates of materials and data. The vast majority of lockers I opened had nothing in them. Some had one or two items. There were only a couple of lockers that had anything at all. I picked up only 20 items total. The locked lockers were pretty empty as well...

Went back to the station, turner in the mission and as I was turning it in, it showed that I was friendly with the main faction, but the station was never green and the faction wasn't green on the mission boards. Weird. Looked at the mission board and 10 missions. I flew to the outpost in the system and it was the same story, 10 missions.

I flew over to HIP 20899 and there were 17 missions on the board. I decided to hit the bartender and get off, sold off the excess mats and data. Looked at the mission board... 10 missions. And most didn't have a material reward.

Not a good session at all... Went to add Yarden, sold the smear campaigns and got a connection error, they're gone and no invite after a couple of relogs... Gave Hero the settlement defense plans, no invite from Wellington Beck even though I sold the prerequisites last week and no invite after a couple of relogs. Crazy.

Definitely time to give it a rest.

Speaking of lockers... Is it just me, or is something finicky about the click conditions for items spawned on the right side of the top shelf in the narrower lockers? -I have to stand well left of centre of the locker, or my pointing at them will not register...

Seems finicky to me, but I haven't put that much thought into it...

Make sure you check both the mission kiosks while on foot, but also the in-ship mission boards, Operation section - it also has restore missions and the 2 mission boards are completely different.
However, not always the mission boards have the rewards i may need, but after taking/doing some missions, they usually pop.

Not normally, but they were added in systems touched by the Thargoid war, so that they can be dispensed even from stations that are under repair, where you can't disembark.
