FOVE and ED

Hello

Does anyone know of any plans to support FOVE? Not sure if this is asked before, but not found any reference yet.

Thanks for any info in advance.

I too would be interested in knowing this. Looks like it could be a good choice for current hardware with a 2560x1440 resolution, which is minimum I want to play with after using the DK2.

I too would assume it works, sort of.

Perhaps on par with vive performance wise so probably not brilliant, considering it has even higher resolution panels than the vive and we barely get that going OK...

The real or the big question I have with FOVE is the eye tracked rendering.
Does this has to be implemented by each title developer or is it built into the driver package for the hmd itself ?

Like a real time downsampling of what the hmd consider to be 'out of view'?

TorTorden, eye tracking isn't above improved performance, it won't improve FPS. It's more a gameplay / control feature.

No but they have foveated rendering, when combined with eye tracked can certainly help with performance, as it only renders in high detail the bits your eyes are look at.

Indeed, I would never expected FD to implement it as a control function.
But the question is if this foveated rendering is with the HMD software and drivers or will it have to be implemented by each title separately.

I belive we can all see how the former is the far more beneficial option and quite honestly the only viable solution.

I suspect that if ED supports FOVE right now, then it won't support foveated rendering. I would think that it would be a game feature that responds to input from the HMD. Was wondering if ED would support FOVE at all at some point. Going in through Steam may be the only option at the mo.

Eyes tracking improve frame rate for sure, that's is primarily its goal, but the computer able to manage the FOVE with such resolution and field of view with a game like ED at an acceptable framerate have not been invented yet IMHO, eyes tracking management or not.

What exactly is the field of view on FOVE ?
Haven't found anything specific, althoug granted I might not have looked to hard :p

My bad, I made a mistake with another headset with have a much wilder (240 degrees?) field of view. This one seems manageable regarding its configuration.

Interesting...

Any news on FOVE for performance optimization in ED?
Mine arrived yesterday and is still in the box. Someone *coff* forgot to tell the wife about his Kickstarter bid and needs to find the right moment. However, should be set up this weekend and will give it a full review.
