FPS community, rise up!

What would you like to see? What are your expectations?

Concerning gameplay, I would like to have three features: crouch, lay down and lean. The trailer confirms that we will be able to crouch, but I haven't seen anything about being able to lay down or lean to the sides.

I think it would be could to lay down on a hill and sniper a settlement. Like Far Cry 3:

Leaning to pick angles would be cool too. I believe that it makes the gameplay more dynamic, like Rainbow 6 Siege:

At last but not least, I hope we have thargoids to kill in the future. Starship troopers style:

I have no expectations... it’s better this way. \o/

Flimley

I actually expect it to be bad. If it is at least "ok" I will be happy. I doesn't seem that we will be able to lean or lay down. We have full control of our ships, but it doesn't seem like we will have much control of our bodies ¯\(ツ)

Most FPS don't have the leaning function so I wont be disappointed if they don't have it. Don't get me wrong I'd like to have it but I doubt it.

Off topic from reading the books on foot combat with thargoids is basically just as hard as ship to ship. They have a natural armor plating and the majority of weapons are useless against them. Anything less than a grenade launcher won't take them down.

Peak or lean is pretty standard for FPS these days, I would expect it to be no different for Odyssey. Just because it it isn't included in the short section of gunfights we've seen doesn't mean it's completely absent. Likewise with going prone, there wasn't much opportunity for it in the teaser, doesn't really bring much action to the video I guess.

It's even possible that the 3rd person animations weren't even finished at the time of filming for all we know.

Edit: Huh, perhaps I am playing different FPS's than Sensai then..

After many 10s of thousands of hours playing fps games since computers were first invented.
My list of wishes is quite simple.

No 3rd person. (this ones a deal breaker for me as its kind of in the name "First Person Shooter")
The ability to Walk, Sprint and Run.
Head tracking (with the models head mirroring the head movements.)
Realistic stamina system with inventory effecting stamina.
Realistic reload and weapon swap times.

What I'd like to see? Meaningful PvP in a FPS gameplay style. The ability to capture and conquer objectives. To find hidden treasures containing various G5 mats in large quantities.

What I expect? Numerous networking issues. Game breaking day 1 bugs. A hand full of exploits that will break the game balance for a month or so. Various canned responses from FDev for any upcoming concern.

I think this train already left the station, maybe a year or so ago.

Probably best just to wait and see what we get and then make suggestions, once we have a realistic idea of what's possible.

I would love ED:O to introduce the PING system that Apex Legends has.

You basically highlight something with your weapon and hit the mouse scroll button to PING it. It's a bunch of prerecorded voice commands.

  • Let's go over here (when PINGING into in empty space)
  • Enemy spotted (when PINGING on enemy)
  • Health here / ammo here / shields here (when PINGING on items)
  • Objective here (when PINGING on mission objective)

It means you don't have to type that stuff out in the text channel if you don't want to be play with microphone and headset.

It keeps the FPS stuff really fast and punchy too. You also rely a lot more on your team communicating with you too.

You will have to mine 1000 tonnes of Methane Clathrate to activate the 'lean' upgrade in your suit

It will actually be a guardian module that you will have to find and unlock using a tech broker. Then you will have to buy it and engineer it if you want to lean more than 10 degrees. With this upgrade you will have more mass and won't be able to run as fast as before
