High fidelity planetary details/landing would be my preference if I had to choose between the two, but I rather think that both that and the 'walking about' expansion are dependent on each other.

The devs will implement in the order required I guess, and as long as the result is totally epic/awesome, I can't say I really mind which arrives first.

Without any hesitation, I prefer planetary landings. Fly over the wonderful landscapes on the planets will be an unforgettable experience

Okay!...I was just writing/typing a reply in this topic, and before I realised it I had a great wall of text before me.:D
So, I scrapped that and decided to try and 'condense' my thoughts to a few lines.

In the game 'Hardwar' (some people may have noticed that I liked that game very much  ) a player could hire a 'taxi' to get about from one area to another in the game. It was basically 'Hire a taxi', wait awhile, board the taxi which arrived at your hanger, and then travel to your (desired) destination.
Your main ship/s were left at the players hangar, the taxi was controlled by the game, so you just clicked a menu to board it, and 'virtually' sat back and watched the game world go by (I think it was in real time). you could theoretically have one ship docked at one place and another ship in some other hangar.
Anyway........the point being is that using this kind of feature down on a planet space port it might alleviate (for a time) the need for first person body movement on certain planets?
It's fairly obvious that a feature like this could be expanded upon. Substitute the space port for the hangar, substitute the FPBM for the 'taxi' (or fast shuttle), now you have a mobile pilot who can visit individual places, in a city, interesting places and I would think even individual npc's in other 'areas'...(maybe even other players?), and no 'walking' involved!
I would hazard a guess that the developers here might have already thought of something similar for the initial planet release maybe.
I mean...you can't just go and land your Cobra M111 down in Trafalgar Square can you!.....Oh!...you CAN? :D

Jack :)

Landing.

Ever since EVE came out back in 2003 a good number of people were saying how cool it would be to be able to leave your ship and wonder around the stations. So, CCP implemented that and it didn't add anything to the game.

X series also tried it. The game didn't fail because of it. But it was a big part of it.

Yeah, I agree. Adding FP gameplay is a lot bigger than just adding FP movement. Like what SC plans to do, there has to be something to do on foot that's worth doing.

Planetary landings. The game wont be a "complete" game until they introduce that and IMO I could wait for the game to be released if they had that option in from the start.
It would also give us the option to put up mining stations on planets surface. leave them there for a while and come back and collect the resources.
Il guess that would be the only passive, long term options in the game to make money.
