FPS Question, is it limited to 60 in ED?

Under Graphics>Display>Frame Rate Limit I have this set to off. I have also tried 120 Hz.

My FPS using Ctrl+F to see it never goes above 60. Is this the max that ED has?

My monitor is set to 100 Hz and I have have GSync enabled.

I would like to know why it never goes over 60 in ED.

It is definitely not capped at 60, I run at 90fps in VR.

The setting is probably being overridden by nVidia Control Panel/AMD Whatever. ED is certainly happy to engage in some unrestrained frame chucking given the chance.

FPS is only limited by your monitor's refresh rate. The Nvidia Control panel is supposed to take that into account and make that your MAX FPS.

Are you sure you actually have hardware refresh to 100hz? Some monitors use software to bump it from 60hz to something higher. That won't fly with the GPU settings. It has to be legit/hardware based refresh rates.

Your GPU's performance is also a factor obviously.

My monitor is a Alienware AW3418DW that has a minimum frame rate of 100 Hz and it can be OC'ed to 120 Hz, right now it is set at 100 Hz.. My GPU is a Zotac Amp Extreme GTX 1080 Ti.

I figured it out.

In the Nvidia Control Panel under resolution I had to set the refresh rate to 100 HZ. It was set to 60 Hz before I changed it.

ED is now running right at 100 FPS.

Your GPU will run enough FPS for you to OC your monitor to 120Hz. I run ED at 200Hz with a 1080 Ti and get 200 FPS most of the time.

MY FPS in game never goes above 30 fps..... and I have a 1080 and I7 8700k Vsync isnt enabled. Every other game is above 100 fps with all bells and whistles turned up, I've always assumed it was a bug in the in game FPS counter.

Any chance you're using a 3rd party program overlaying Elite? My FPS locks at 30 while running TCE, goes back up to 60 when I shutdown TCE

Idahosurge

I have that exact card ZOTAC AMP EXTREME 1080ti and it is an absolute beast!

I'm running 3 x ASUS 4k PB287Qs pretty much maxed out quality @ 0.75 subsampling, no aa, no blur.
With the same settings and (1.5 HMD Supersampling) I get solid 90Hz in my Oculus Rift.

I'm running MSI Afterburner software which came with a pair of old 780s I bought in 2014. It monitors voltages/temperatures and comes with RIVA Video Tuner that can overlay an ACCURATE frame rate as well as other stats on the screen (bright pink, top left, configurable).

When I remove "VERTICAL SYNC" and set "Framerate Limit to something silly" my card can deliver between 70-100 fps in deep space on those 3 x 4ks.

Cobra engine is super efficient at High res (I'm playing at 11K+ overall resolution).

Even on my 60hz panel, one time I fired up ED and noticed my GPU load was waaay higher than normal - I monitor such things on a second screen. For whatever reason, that time I launched the game it'd decided to remove the FPS limit...I was seeing well over 100fps. I applied the 60fps vSync limit again and it's not lost it since. I thought that first time might have been due to a driver update, but not subsequent driver updates have changed anything. I did have my resolution reset one time after a game / server glitch however, but just the once.

So yes, the game can go above 60fps, seemingly when it decides to do so from time to time lol.

Scoob.

The game has a hard cap of 300 fps. We have 240hz monitors now, so a GTX 1080 ti will be able to power through it except when on a planet, which becomes a CPU bottleneck.

I game on 2 displays. One is a 180hz 1080p display, which is always locked at 180 fps.

I also game on a 2160p display and I cap it at 60 with vsync on to remain in Gsync range.

This game is fantastic at 4k, but the 60hz cap may be hard on some. I prefer playing at 4k60 over 1080p180, but other games it is the opposite.

We are seeing 1080p144hz displays under $200 and 4k60 displays under $300 in my country now. It is a great time to upgrade from a 60hz 1080p monitor.

Nvidia is also collaboratiing with Samsung to bring us 65" 4k120hz Gsync monitors later this year.

Edit: OP must change the FPS limit in his settings to 120.
