FPS

What is considered to be a good frame rate say inside a station, fighting in a REZ or Conflict Zone. I am getting 60 regardless of where I am and wanted to know if this is good, fair or otherwise and should I be looking to improve upon it?

I get on Ultra 1080p:

Super Cruise - 170-190
Station - 90
Surface - 70
Res - Not noticed

970 GTX/i5 6600k

But my old build was only 40-50 fps in stations, didn't bother me. 60 is good.

Anything where the game is smooth and doesn't skip visually causing your eyes problems.

Generally 30-40 is considered acceptable with 60+ being optimised. Some people can handle lower, some people notice anything less than 60. Generally internet is more of an issue with Elite apart from as you say in action heavy areas and on planets.

If you are getting 60 no matter what, then I would imagine that your framerate is locked to your monitors refresh rate. You'll not see more than 60 unless you alter settings and then I doubt you'll actually see an improvement.

If not recording I usually get around 150 FPS (144hz monitor) in supercruise/subspace but it all depends on the instance. If you are playing with a bunch of people or a lot of NPCs your fps will inevitably drop.

And of course, just like with any other game, TURN OFF V SYNC!!

Is that easy to do?

In game V-sync & frame rate limiter, I agree.

But V-sync alltogether? Depends on if your system can handle it. If you get above 60 FPS without V-sync (and have a 60 Hz monitor), you get tearing. Of course, that doesn't bother everyone, but I'm one of those that do not want it. :)

V-sync (regular or adaptive) & Triple-buffering work fine for me.

I capped my 960 4GB to 60fps max'.

I achieve it anywhere in space, and I only drop to 50fps at the busiest of planetary situations.

Coming from the sub-30fps Xbox game, I'll take my new perf' specs' any day!

V sync off up to 110 in the station!

The only place turning V-Sync off is not advised is when playing First Person Shooters (or similar), when you turn too fast horizontally, and you will get tearing across the monitor (Unless you have a high enough value refresh rate on your on monitor to handle it). In Elite you never turn fast enough to notice it.

Can someone tell me more about V-Sync? I'm quite the n00b.

Feel free to do so with PM so as not to clog up the forum.

Many thanks! :)
