Ships Frag Cannons

Hello all, I've just got a question about engineering options for Frags.

I'm going to be re-outfitting my FDL with 4 Medium Frags. Looking to switch it up from the full multi cannon loadout it had since I bought it.

Anyway ill mostly be using it for PVE (CZ or such) so my original thought process was Grade 5 Overcharged + Incendiary Rounds. But then I thought maybe Overcharged + Screening Shell.

But my experience with frags in the past, then run through ammo quite quickly. So then I thought about Grade 5 High Capacity + Screening Shell.

I plan on keeping the huge multi cannon, but possibly running High Capacity + Autoloader, but idk.

So what do you think would be the best route for me?

Thanks (y)

Keep the multicannon , either with overcharged or short range. Apply corrosive.
If you use the FdL only for CZ/Res, use high cap and three incendiary, one drag.
Enjoy the slaughter.

One of the issues with Frags and CZs is ammunition usage.

I use my Corvette in CZs all the time. Using the frags to finish off every ship means having to have the mats and the time to synthesize ammo for the frags, and in my case, I never started using the frags until after the shields are down.

Just keep that in mind going with frags as primary weapons.

Let us know how it works out for you boss.

Kinda depends on your style. Frags are obviously a close range weapon. If you like to get close and personal, I recommend Rapid Fire. You don't need to wait for the reload sequence, so you can capitalise on a good firing position. Downside to Rapid Fire is the jitter, but if you close enough its not an issue.

I really enjoy all-Frag boats for CZs, but as noted by others, you will need to synth ammo frequently.

Taking down shields with Frags, you'll need Incendiary on some of them. Overcharged with Incendiary gives a huge increase to your heat generation, so keep an eye on that.

I'd personally go with Huge MC High-Cap/Incendiary, 2x Frag Rapid Fire/Incendiary for quick shield takedown. and all the above plus 2X Frag Rapid Fire/Corrosive/Screening for the hull. You should be able to keep 3 pips to thrusters to maintain your position and still maintain high weapon charge. Caveat - I've not tested this works...

Pity there is no Huge Frag!

I'm a frag-abuser, I cut it in two play styles:

"the bee": you pursue your enemy and eventually ram into his/her ship -> double-shot (2xscreening shell, 1xcorrosive, 1xdrag)

"the butterfly": you joust with your enemy and you need to be ready for alpha strike -> overcharged (2xincendiary, 1xcorrosive, 1xdrag)

I'm actually not certain it matters that much for PvE. I found some old Frags in storage and dropped them into my mission/cargo Python to speed up mat collection - and they eat through any Anaconda that interdicts me. I think they're all Double Shot, with 2X Screening (topside larges), Corrosive (nose large), and Drag & Incendiary on the mediums. I reckon Overcharged Incendiary on all three larges would give better DPS, but it's already overkill.

I use all frag builds on my Krait and my Python.

For conflict zones, I find G5 high capacity to be most effective, in that it is possible to clear a medium CZ solo, including the SpecOps ships, and have ammo left over. That gives you a nice break to rearm and cash the bonds.

For mission running or trading, it doesn't really matter what mod you put on frags; you'll tear holes in anything that interdicts you.

I always go with overcharged, seems to be the best compromise between dps and ammo longevity. The only time I use high cap is for corrosive or drag size 1 utility frags. Seems to be fine to clear med CZs without reload.
Screening shell for the fast reload, incendiary to deal with shields, and drag or corrosive if not already on an utility.

But did you hear about Pacifiers? That's the frags you want. 3 for the Krait and 4 for the Anaconda. You will be a changed person after trying that combo.

Pacifiers are good, though I still like the regular gimballed ones. Here is the build I use: https://s.orbis.zone/2jvz

DPS is good and I only use them at less than 600m range for max effect. In my group I'm usually the first guy in to drop shields etc.
