PvP FRAG,SPACE SHOTGUNS,SHRAPNEL LAUNCHERS...DOOM GUYS WIFE! What is..the best mod here is my take

So...lets talk space shotguns...When you need to fill your opponent full of lead while jamming out to BFG Division or you are just looking for a low draw high DPS weapon that is a great alternative to Plasmas or Cannons Lets talk and discuss your uses of Fragmentation Cannons (FRAGS) Here I will go over what I have used on my Vulture and FAS (soon to be clipper) and various other ships

Lets throw some numbers down real quick.

Standard Fragment Cannon
Shot Speed 667m/s
Range 2km 1.8km Fall off

Fixed
3C 249.2 DPS (423.7 Over charged)
2A 179.1 DPS (304.5 Over charged)
1E 95.3 DPS (162.1 Over charged)

Gimbals
3C 215.3 DPS (366.1 Over charged)
2A 143.6 DPS (244.1 Over charged)
1E 71.3 (121.2 Over charged)

Pacifier Frag Cannon (Hudson Power play weapon FEDS WHOO)
Shot Speed 1,000 m\s
Range 3k 2,8 km fall off
Also Has a tighter spread for that sweet Distance

Fixed
3C 183.6 DPS (312.1 Over charged)

So I currently only use the Fixed Variant of the 3C on my Vulture with staggering 847.4 DPS :O I run Dual Screening as well for the faster reload time.
However I hear how double shot can be better for securing a quicker kill. And on other build with more Hard Points I will trow in some Drag & Corrosive as well..

In my testing with my Vulture and FAS (with only fixed mind you) It does EH okay.. With normal frags you need something agile and quick so the FAS and Vulture and Clippers Fit this bill meanwhile the Pacifiers have a PA like range (better actually) and I have yet to Engineer mine. The big debate I hear is the whole OVERCHARGED or DOUBLE SHOT also should you use Gimbals or Fixed

Also I tend to run a small gimbal or turret frag on my Chieftain\Challenger to apply drag to my opponents.

Really curious how other CMDRS use this under rated weapon and how or if they could be used in against other built PVP ships. I did not like them at first but man these things are GREAT when you use them right!!

They're not under rated. Many ,many players use them. Gankers love them especially on Clippers.
I prefer Pacifiers for the range and shotspeed plus the grouping and fixed POA.

Double-shot is what I used often with various effects, lots use screening shell.
Drag is popular for average PvP but is useless in the deep end.
Thermal is my go to. With corrosive if you can deal with the ammo drop.

So much fun on any ship for fast dps applications.

You are using frag cannons to take out the big ships. You will need to be really great with them against lighter faster fighters as a Viper or Vulture. Then again you may not engage them looking for the bigger profits with large ships.

There is one aspect often overlooked by those who didn’t actually practice with space shotties. One really doesn’t have to be accurate with them. It’s a fly-by burst, fixed or gimbal, which is normally sprayed in the general direction of the enemy. You don’t have to lead, like with Plasma or hold in one place for long periods, like a beam user. Consequently, all that freed up energy is directed towards the most important thing - piloting. Suddenly, being the one on the move, you become the director of what happens next. Which is a lot bigger deal than it sounds. Little bonus: Frag user isn’t constrained by distributor, therefore most energy can be directed to shields. All the time.

I have Mk2 and Mk3 dedicated solely to Frags. Screening shell for big ones, incendiary for small ones.

Me love big shottas. Work nice when shotting the broadside of big boats... but fer shotting a cog is bettar to use sumfing else.

Ya must keep yar ship very close to make 'em effactive (so bettar gimbals if ya be landlubber and first time on the gangplank). Me 'ave gimbals on the cutlass 'cause the 'ardpoints are too far.

Pacifier work nice on big boats against big boats... lovely nice on 'conda fer example.

Here be how me decide:

Doubble-shotta -> gimballs
Overcharg'd -> fix and pacifiers

As specials, incendiary + corrosive as first picks. Then othars like drag are fine... sincereley to make good use of screening ya must keep some ToT and it be ok for big ships otherwise be wasted effect agains anothar cutlass.

Pacifiers? Most certainly. No falloff, high damage and tight spread.

Every other frag? Nope. Small ships can totally dodge every pellet, hell some can straight up outrun the pellets. If your opponent uses a decent amount of laterals you won't hit them at all.

Agree^^^ I started out using Double-shot gimbals, then graduated to Overcharged gimbals, now I'm using overcharged pacifiers. My favorite experimental mix is Drag Munitions and Corrosive. If I have corrosive or Drag somewhere else, then I'll add Incendiary. But my preference is definitely Overcharged over Double-shot. Sometimes a PvP duel can last a long time and Double-shot runs out too fast.

Excellent. I only found a Corvette to Test this on. I will engineer the pacifiers

The higher volume of pellets connecting with the target usually results in higher DPS anyways :) I always found DS to be a bit of an enigma.. It's a higher DPS buff sure, coupled with screening sheel, its massive, but theres 0% net increase in overall damage output. Never understood why it was so popular. I guess because healthpools used to be smaller, but even then.

Dont get me wrong against a big ship you probably want normal frags as it's quite easy to get within a suitable range, but the range and shotspeed on the Pacifiers is far better for everything else.

The original double shot/screening trend started as a ganker build and then got a lot of traction with the crosshatch pairs.
There's some merrit to it if applied correctly ( think frag-ram hulltank clippers),
but I now usually have objectives that don't favour it's use.

OC pacifiers for me are less ToT which suits my general flight style much better.

Anything that works as a ganker build can be used against gankers. Think frag-ram hulltank hybrid challengers :D

I have mixed feelings about Frags.

Used to love them on my PvE Vulture. Oldschool Double Shot Mayhem. Got boring quite fast.
They´re probably Gankers Delight vs big and/or slow ships. But, my Cmdr does not gank or grief, soo...
I used them on Ryans Meta Chief build. Kinda ok for applying effects. But main damage still via PAs. And the build was just not my cuppa tea.
Then tried them as supplement on the Phantom w/ SRB/TC PAs in the large. Felt they just dont do enough damage in sporty endgame PvP vs capable pilots in approbriate ships. Still could not put my finger on it why the´re just oookayyy. Spoke to a veteran and he was like:

Frags are nothing more than paper DPS which might work only vs big ships but, against mediums, especially other kraits, more if opponent is know how to fight against frags, not even 1/3 of listed DPS will be actually deliverd. Unless you find someone who dont move at all.

Which is kinda true. I feel they´re some knd of psychological warfare. I, too, hit boost very fast when being hit by an Alpha Volley OC/DS or SS frags. But once I know whats happening, the rest of volleys wont catch me off guard and the game´s becoming rather easy. YMMV
