Frame rate drop in stations?

Anyone else finding large frame drops in stations these days?

These days? Not so much. In the past? YES.

I play VR, and I sometimes had to drop image quality to VR Low so I wouldn't get judder in stations. 2.3 fixed that problem. Now I can keep it at VR High all the time.

Depends on the station and which of my PCs I'm using. High tech and tourism knock my GTX 750 down from 60fps to about 45-50. Generally ok elsewhere.

No issues on my PC with the 970 GTX, Solid 60fps everywhere.

Stations are mad level of intense. A lot of work going on in there....lots to render, lots of shadows, lots of everything.

If you are going to hit a performance drop it will be in a station, and/or a planet surface.

So either ignore and enjoy the game everywhere else, reduce quality to improve performance and remove the issue, or meet in the middle and only reduce quality a little.

I don't have any performance issues other than when using VR at a station, where I have a slight FPS drop.

YES!

980ti with a 1388 boost clock and an i7 6700k @ 4.6 ghz.

The frame rate counter doesn't register these stutters as drops, I still see a locked 60fps with occasional drop to 58fps for one frame. The frame times don't drop either, but I am definitely getting judder near stations most of the time.

I believe this is a flaw in the game's engine and not a direct reflection of your actual fps at that point in time. Those with 1080ti cards are reporting the same issue, despite having more than enough raw horsepower to run this game stutter free on paper.

Interesting, I actually see an FPS drop at stations when using VR.

There a source on this? I'd be interested to read any recorded info on the topic, as my bud has a slightly lower GPU and has more serious station issues in VR.

Not seeing it myself. Not using VR though...is that the common factor?

GTX1060, Core i5, 16GB RAM, SSD, Dell Ultrasharp monitor at whatever its native resolutions is (2,000 and something)

Yup!

I go from a solid 60fps in space, to a slightly uncomfortable 20-30fps in a dock. Lol

My GPU also goes in to overdrive, and maxed out the fans. It's quite loud. Lol

That said, my GPU is an old AMD HD 6870 1GB doodah.

For a laugh I set my graphics to ultra everything once.
I still got 30~fps in space, but only 10~fps in a dock, or planet. Lol

It did look good though. I need a new GPU.

Might have something to do with 100% ULTRA mode settings which most of us with high end GPUs are using.

Without fail, whenever I drop into a station my boost clock pegs at its max output, and this continues the entire time I am inside the station. All GPU performance parameters are pegged at the maximum.

Why the game is putting such a high demand on our GPUs to render sitting in a hangar bay and displaying the Starport Services menus is something I have never really understood. The only other time I see my GPU and CPU running full tilt is when I am on a Planet's surface with my SRV. I can understand that scenario, but menus? At a station? Sitting in a Hangar Bay doing nothing?

Makes no sense.

The stuttering/juddering when dropping into a station has been a problem for years. Why FDEV has never chosen to actually address the cause is a real disappointment to a lot of players who have invested thousands of $$ into high end gaming rigs. Only to see their performance suffer regardless of how powerful their systems hardware is.

Getting that too here. Using CV1, also some of the engineers bases, one on top of my mind is Jameson in shinrarta dezra, upon dropping from supercruise I get severe judder. It goes away restarting the game. It feels like FPS drop on the transition, ASW kicks in but then the game for some reason is unable to run fluidly afterwards and keep juddering unless the game is restarted.

None of the above was happening before 2.3 went live. NONE.

Playing solo help to reduce how often it happens but doesn't get rid of the issue

Yes I have had this issue ever since 2.3 update.

Try adjusting/lowering or turning off ambient occlusion it helped me. (Doesn't fix it completely but helps) mine is on low now and it's much more tolerable. Still not as good as I was pre 2.3.

Possibly try adjusting bloom a little lower too, but I think it was the Ao setting that really helped as if I increase it I get bad frame rate again in stations.

Hope this helps.

Play with your settings. Running an AMD FX6300, 16GB 1866mhz and an Asus Strix RX480 8GB. At 1440p with all settings except shadows maxed and SMAA/SSAAx1.0, the game is super smooth at 60fps with occasional minor fps drop on planetary surfaces. Ultra shadows add some fps drop in stations especially, so it's left at high and subjectively it's a barely noticeable shadow quality dfference. As a personal preference I play with bloom and blur off, but they don't make a difference to fps if enabled.

Hevak is correct that ambient occlusion is another fps killer. Using two different previous cards I had to leave it on low or medium for 60 fps in station/hangar.

I never check frame rates but this past week I have had about 5 CTDs in stations - coming up from the hangar or launching, game crashes and the error-reporting box (from watchdog?) comes up asking to send a crash report. I never had any CTDs before this week.

Yeah, I'm still getting frame rate drops in stations. The constant stuttering in Open is gone, thank heavens, but stations are still a problem. I had no trouble running things at max before 2.3, and changing the graphics quality now makes no difference at all: whatever it is, this is not an issue with the card not being powerful enough. I've updated my graphics card drivers twice since this started happening, too, and that makes no difference.

I've seen a suggestion that it may be something to do with the journal.
