Newcomer / Intro FRameshift Wake Scanner.

Hi, how does the fsws work. if i fight someone, he "jumps" away, i go and scan his wake, and then? nothing shows up on my radar after the scan, how do i find him?

thanks

Target the wake and when the scan finishes you should see the destination star system in the information about the targeted wake, engaging your jump drive should then take you there, as best as I remember.

I mostly only use it for harvesting data though.

Correct...with his wake targeted, scan...when scan is finished, engage FSD point your ship in the direction of the target system (use cockpit compass if you're not sure) and you'll jump to the same system assuming you have the range. That is, no point chasing him if he jumps 30LY and you only have a 19LY Jump range!

ok, thanks, then i thought about it wrong.
i thought if i scan the wake i can see where he is in the current system. doesnt really make sense if i follow a non rare npc through the galaxy :D

Once scanned if the wake says “Low Wake” he’s still in the same system.
Just engage Supercruise again and he’ll be somewhere not too far away!

ok, so if they just go into supercruise they are still in the same system. scanning the high energy wake shows me the system they jumped too but what does scanning the low energy wake show me? how do i find him when he is still in the same system?

Just jump to SC and look for him.

If you are a bounty hunter or doing assassination missions a wake scanner and a FSD Interdictor is useful. Add a kill warrant scanner for better profit's. If a pirate looking for cargo add a manifest scanner to see what a ship is carrying in their hold. Then some limpets to break the cargo hatch and others to collect them. Each has their own abilities and better with engineering but it will cost you. Enjoy playing the game and figuring this all out.

Personally when the game gets complicated the Devs wanted players to work together making it easier. But it is just my opinion. Meanwhile my Multi-Crew on the PS4 account seems to agree. :)

yes have a fsd on board thats how i did the hunting so far.
im new to the game and cuirrently im just doing the " kill x pirates in *** system" to get more money and buy a better ship.

yesterday after i killed someone i picked up medicaments but they were stolen.
whats the worst thing that can happen if i have stolen goods on board? was pretty paranloid until i sold them of on the blackmarket.
it was also worth next to nothing (500cr) so im not sure if it even makes sense to pick up stolen goods. it also said if i throw out the stolen goods they are still in my posession, what does that mean?

Selling stolen goods are not a big deal if there is a black market to sell them. Just fly fast and don't get scanned arriving at an orbiting station. Pretty easy to do. Dumping cargo there are two options. One where you retain ownership and the other where you don't. Do this in sight of a security force or a station thus you will get a fine.

One more thing. You can only scan the wake if you're close enough - 4km for a class A FSWS and 3km for a class C, etc.

You can scan ships in SC - just have them in range and within the angle of your scanner. Not wakes though afaik.

Also, it appears the encoded mats are different between ship and wake scans.

I'm always cycling targets when heading to stations.
