Franchise Mode - Argh - clunky Animal Trading

Update:- I think I might have found the problem with the 'gluey' feeling. It seems that the hitbox on the Animal Trading UI buttons is a bit off, and if I click on the very lower edge of the buttons, the UI works more smoothly and quickly. Can anyone else confirm this?

So, although there are some connectivity issues too, this works around quite a few of my problems.

First off - I flipping love this game already. It's a game I've been waiting for since the demise of the Zoo Tycoon series, and I'm really enjoying it. It's beautiful, the animals are so gorgeous and engaging, I love the gameplay. I love it.

But Franchise Mode...and I have one gripe specifically, and that's the Animal Trading market. It's so damn clunky and slow. We have a good internet connection and my PC isn't too shoddy, and despite this, using the online Animal Trading feels like wading through glue. It won't refresh, filter, sort quickly. Sometimes the UI fails to show correctly. Buying an animal is too slow. It makes the whole point of Franchise increasingly aggravating over time. I realise I'm talking probably a matter of seconds here, but it's long enough to feel tiresome.

As a result, I don't want to put time into it, which is a shame because I like the idea very much, despite the awful (but predictable?) things I hear about pricing problems.

So I'm going to leave Franchise alone for now, because it's not fun to play, but I hope it's sorted out soon.

I agree with you and have my own issues with the animal trading :)
  • The list where you can filter to only show one species is not in alphabetical order in any language except for english (in the animal and the exhibit trading).
  • The animal market (not the exhibit market) does not handle UI scaling. UI scaling over 100% makes the text and icons look stretched and low-res. Like it doesn't render the window in the final scale, but renders it at 100% UI scale and then stretches it large. Also, the list where you can filter to only show one species does not get scaled up. (This bullet point only happens in the animal market and storage, not the exhibit market and storage)
  • Trying to sell an animal sometimes gives you an error message that the animal name "is not acceptable". I understand why they have this filter but I think there are two issues with it:
    • First, it tells you immediately if your animal name went through the filter or not. A player with bad intentions could just rename their animal to a different slur until one makes it through. I think it would be a better idea to just not show an error message, and instead show a different (one of the games default) name to the buyers. Then the troll wouldn't know if their trolling was successful or not.
    • Second, the game thinks that some of the game generated default names are unacceptable. Like Abigail for example.

Well, tbf, Abigail is one of the rudest words in the world ever.

I agree with all your points - I forgot to mention the UI scaling too. Also, for reasons I don't understand, you can't select more than one animal in your trading window in Franchise, unlike the other modes. So you can't, for example, send a group of animals you've just bought to Quarantine, you have to do them individually.

If you don't mind, please click "can reproduce" and write your monitor specs on my bug report about the UI scaling :)
I think that way the devs can best see that it's a common issue.

I had that feeling too, but I never did anything with it. I have a short fuse; A button has to work as intended or it is broken ;)

A single click and than hit "enter" works flawless for me.
