Often the realisation is followed by words I can't say on the forum, When you put so much effort into making a habitat area so everything else needs to suffer to look the right size. There has never been a moment where I've thought, yeah I'll delete this and start again to make it smaller. Some people make all these grids on the entire map for follow the real zoo exactly to prevent this but I'm not a fan of those, the creative challenge to make everything the right size by just eyeballing it is far more pleasing than filling in just another grid.
