Free Elon, honour him in game, rethread (avoid politics to avoid the Yaffle effect, IE thread Closed)

I think we should honour and express a tribute to Master Musk in our game, I'm thinking at least a station, Elon's Vision.

The guy is a serious inspiration.

Please don’t get political in this thread, or mention top trumps, or Master Yaffle will close once again.

Would you say that many of the concepts he uses, where suppressed my the oil giants?

That said: He is a rich man, he is interested in the future and we have a conception here of one kind of future. He can afford to throw a few bucks, F.D.s way and have a system named after him.

Arry, I’d love to answer but I’m not 100% sure what the definition of Political means on this forum, or what political really means in RL, maybe wannabe pop culture stars too ugly to make hay.

Elon inspired me that’s for sure, I was lost, dipped in oil tar, then came elong this beautiful freak.

To me with electronics; 'the end justifies the means' and today, the battery is a major part of the means.

At the same time, research has been paused, by owners of such prototypes etc.. I have not really heard of the guy until recently and may have to look up, what and where he came from. I have no idea of his beginnings. He has managed to make a mark and has made some remarkable products.

i think batteries are limited by the physics of the chemicals used, expect slow progress.

however imagining Tesla, SpaceX and the rest is remarkable.

can we rename mars after this geeky hero…

I do think in the not to distant future this epoch will be politely termed the Oil Age.

Why? He's just flesh and blood, just like the rest of us.

Instead of idolising the (in this case very) rich and famous, we should be celebrating the good of humanity as a whole.

Right now, most people aren't part of anything. That needs to change.

We can start by Mr Musk declining the offer of being "immortalised" in a video game.

I have thought on it. I'd tell you the full details but that really would make it political.

So I'm just going to leave it like this.

We need to stop idolising the few, and start embracing the many.

With that, I leave this thread.

While I think he does over promise and I take a lot of the things he says with a large pinch of salt, He is advancing the role of private industry in space which is kind of what Elite is about. The galaxy is big enough to name something after him

Does Elon Musk even know what Elite Dangerous is?
And if he does does he want to be "honoured" in the game?

If the answer to either of those is No, then I say no, don't "honour" him in-game (and that goes for anyone).

until he can make batteries an economically viable solution for energy storage that actually work as intended, renewables will never be a threat to oil/gas since backup for renewables basically always involve some form of oil/gas backup.

the question for me is:

if tomorrow, the Falcon Heavy will succeed to launch,
and if it really launches a Tesla roadster into space in an eternal orbit passing mars,

will FDEV calculate the possible position of that roadster in 3k years and put it into the the game like the voyager probe?
