Free The Cobra MKIV

Hey peeps

My OCD has finally burst...... i want a Cobra MKIV for no other reason then i have aquired every other ship in the game and its killing me that i cant buy the one ship im not allowed to.....

The MKIV in case you are unaware is a restricted purchase to those who have been playing the game since at the very least before me (Really early doors players) which means that most of us and ALL of the newly introduced dont have access to the ship. I get that as a reward to early cmdrs there was a restricted ship but the game has evolved with new ships which have been released, take the Dolphin why wasnt that restricted to all that played the game before PS4 users arrived...

Understand that i dont want/need a cobra MKIV, by all accounts its not that great and those that have both would use a MKIII instead, if i purchased one it would go into storage and id likely never use it beyond module storage but the fact i cant buy one is killing me

You say it's 'killing you', by which I assume you mean you find it a bit irritating.

Well, with that in mind, the problem is that a 'once off exclusive' is either exactly that, or it's meaningless.

Whilst I do actually have some sympathy for your irritation, it's no less than I feel for missing the Cobra III chrome pant-job, and alas for both of us, FDev have thus far shown that a 'once off exclusive' is exactly that.

And I think they are right so to do.

I have access to the Cobra IV and would certainly be willing to have it opened up for others who might not have it. Since it was an exclusive offering, I'd be ok with FD giving us a different exclusive item in exchange, just to keep with the spirit of exclusivity. Like fuzzy dice.

The Cobra IV isn't much of a ship to be honest. I sold mine a long time ago and never looked back.

How about a compromise then.... like the rare black friday paint jobs why not do a once a year cobra MKIV sale?

It should be for all to have.

And if the FDev's choose the way of wisdom, and release it to all; I hope they can give it a little extra of the stuff that makes the Cobra an ACTUAL Cobra. [yesnod]

The ability for CMDRS that do own one to sell it to those that cant buy one.... Then the issue of exclusivity lies at the feet of the owners

I've no problem with this. As long as every 'life-time-exclusive' was also on sale. And I mean every single thing.

It wasn't 'really early doors' to be honest, it was available to anybody on PC who bought the Horizons expansion before 5th Feb 2016 and anyone on XBox who bought it before 30 July 2016. The game was officially released (v1.0) in December 2014 and was in various betas for about a year before that - all beta backers and lifetime expansion pass holders also got access to the ship but I didn't even start playing until October 2015 and I have access to it.

Every time this comes up you're going to get some commanders screaming at you asking why plebs like you should be allowed to buy their special things (just wait...) and some like me who really wouldn't have any issue with it being made generally available. I've said before that I think the sensible thing to do with exclusive ship deals would have been for them to be made generally available at the beginning of the season after the one they were released in but since the entire season concept is going in the trash after 2.4 it's probably something of a moot point now.

Oh you'll also get a load of people who do have access to it (usually about 90% of them) telling you it's totally crap anyway and you're not missing anything. Without wanting to rub it in, they couldn't be more wrong - yeah it's not the toughest ship in the game and it sure isn't the fastest but it's a small pad ship with eight (!) optional internal slots (4 x class 4, 2 x class 3 and 2 x class 2) which basically makes it the small pad Python. I love it, it's a great little ship.

If you want access to a small pad Python, why not just get a Python? The Cobra IV is redundant at best.

I would have no issue with others having a Cobra IV, but I would appreciate a wire frame for my Cobra III as a quid pro quo

There's been a lot of running down the IV, but once engineered it's a pretty handy ship, especially for mining. I just like the way it handles now.

I have two Pythons. I still like the Cobra MkIV. I like quite a few ships. Oh and my general purpose Python is worth 153m which is a bit more expensive than the Cobra Mk IV. Not an issue for me, my assets are over 2 billion but not everybody has that kind of funding.

Additionally the Python is of course not the small pad Python, it's the medium pad Python Obviously it makes no difference in the game as it is today because there aren't any stations or bases with only small pads as far as I know but who knows what the future may bring?

'Like' is a strong word but I have access to the Cobra MkIV so I found a use for it (as a cheap miner). I don't think I'd miss it if I hadn't got access though.

Personally I'd love to get a Cobra (MkIII) wireframe skin but I understand they were exclusive & I missed out. I have a few skins & patches that are exclusive or not available to buy, others I missed out on.

I'd love to have increased insurance like the kickstarter backers too (mine was briefly 96% after buying the LEP but reverted to 95% again soon after). Oh well.

dude, i would gladly buy you one but i think you have more pressing issues. what about getting over it?

indeed, an exclusive ship is not the best idea, so it's just fine that the cobra isn't at all indispensable. being an emblematic and also a quite versatile ship it's enough to give a warm feeling to any cobra lovers who caught it without being unfair to others.

and yeah, exclusives should stay exclusives for several reasons. frontier could exceptionally bring something back but that should be truly ... exceptional.

I am a bit annoyed as well, i have it on xb but as i only recently got the game on PC i obviously dont have it.

The ship honestly was nothing special and i dont really fly it but it would be nice to have it.
