This is a cool idea. Your post was clearly written but somehow it didn't quite make sense to me until I saw a youtube video of the ride.
I definitely like the idea of being able to combine rides (or even just the structures) in interesting ways so hopefully these drop rides are as modular as possible so what you suggest is an option. A similar ride I like is the Tower if Terror at California adventure or Disneysea. I wonder if we will be able to control the ride more dynamically if we want as well so it's not just a drop but also can shoot back up again.
The 'theme-ing' around Tower of Terror is pretty amazing too. Making these rides more modular could not only allow us to build them on existing structures but also surround them in cool scenery. The drop rides in RCT3 were flat rides and not very modular preventing what you suggest and I found them very disappointing as a result. Hope they go a different way with drop rides this time around. Is it possible they could be built simply as a different type of roller coaster?
