Newcomer / Intro friend has come online notification

If it's the same exclamation mark, mine is there permanently.
One of the reasons I basically don't have any friends in Elite, anymore. There was a particularly infuriating period of time when everybody was grinding missions for one reason or another. And of course when you save-scum the mission board, you spam your friends with "online" - "offline" messages.... and the stupid exclamation mark stays until they relog.

Within a month I reduced my friendlist from 50+ to about 10 and have stopped accepting invites forever.
I don't play many MMOs, but those I do play need to have one very specific feature - the ability to switch the forking chat OFF.
Over the years I stopped hoping Elite would receive some comms settings that would allow me to isolate myself should I choose to.
No, it is not there when you start the game - it appears when there is a "information" message (in grey for me) and stays there until you relog. It is excruciatingly stupid to have something as an alert to you - which then just sits there blocking any further alerts - not the first bloody stupid thing from F Dev.
Yup, a part of the background noise that could instead be a useful detail.
I'd really like for that to be working properly too. There are a few other minor bits that, if fixed, would improve the game-play more than their minor nature suggests. For me, the new UI upon landing at a port has one.
Edit: ...and it's really a shame that this prevents both of you from using the in-game friends features. Really.

Have they fixed the exclamation mark now? Tyres was on and off this afternoon and I got the notification but no exclamation mark. Great if this is now fixed.
