Here are some wishes, tweaks to Combat zone to help against the big issue of Friendly Fire, and also to make them feel more "real"
Reducing Friendly Fire issue
In a combat zone (war zone) friendly fire is a reality. Given that ships have gimbal mounted fragment cannons (read super spray shotgun) then that ship WILL hit a friendly in an intense melee
Given this, lets totally relax Friendly Fire consequences ONLY on combat zones.
I propose...
* Enemy status is ONLY conferred to a Commander, if they cause significant damage to their own side, on a consistent basis
* This consistent basis would be, one kill, and then at least 50% hull damage (accumulated) to a single friendly unit.
* A ram kill would not count as a kill
* Once a friendly kill was registered, the pilot would receive a message from their navy informing them that they are on probation, any further significant/persistent friendly fire will result in enemy status.
* As a player approaches the 50% damage on a friendly unit, they will be warned. I would suggest multiple warnings, at 15% and 30%.
* This probation will last for 5 minutes, they may wait this out, or cary on fighting VERY carefully.
Making Combat Zones more "realistic"
* All AI ships belonging to a faction will be wearing that factions livery (paint job + decals) (this can be Imperial/Fed, or procedurally generated for independent factions)
* Faction liveries + decals help us to visually identify friend from foe, especially in very chaotic close quarters combat.
* AI Officers within a Factions navy, would display a Decal denoting their rank
* If the user is ranked in a Navy, they may choose any side in a zone, but if they side with an "enemy" of their Navy, they will lose rank.
* If a user picks a faction in a combat zone, and makes a number of kills, say 2, they are locked to that faction for 24 hours.
* When a user is locked to a faction in a zone, leaving and returning to that zone, or other zones in system, will auto select that faction
* Once a combatant is classed as enemy to their faction, due to friendly fire, this will last for 24 hours. They are given ample warning after all.
Lets make friendly fire a "choice" for the naughtier pilots amongst us, and not an accidental issue that see's ALL of us flying out of combat zones with 10 ships (enemy AND ex friends) hot on our tails, melting our hulls
