Assault bounties... it happens. Whether a bug or intentional, the more you hunt the more you risk it. It's happened to me a couple of times.
The first time was an NPC flying right through my beam streams... I saw the Assault fine pop up. No big deal, I'll pay the fine. However, I wasn't expecting EVERY SINGLE NPC in range to suddenly unload on me within moments. Cost me my Viper (good thing I had the insurance covered... but insuring beams and D-C upgrades doesn't come cheap.)
Yesterday, it happened again. I was taking a completely clear shot - no other ships even near in the FOV, and out of nowhere another player in a Sidey rolls in front of me. GAH! Tagged with another assault bounty. Gritted my teeth and msg'ed him "I should waste your ship for flying right though my shot like that." No reply came back, but this time I had sense enough to immediately hit SC and head to the nearest station to pay the fine. On the way there - Interdiction. Cop? Hunter? NPC? Didn't even have time to check. I'm normally good at avoiding interdiction, but this guy was a master at it... pulled me out of SC like it was nothing. Quick check on the scanner - and it's another player. I took a leap of faith, left the guns holstered, and sent out a text chat.
Me: "Let it go, man. It's a friendly fire bounty and I'm on my way to pay it".
-long pause-
Him "200 CR? LOL."
Me: "Yeah."
Him: "I feel ya bro. Sorry for the trouble."
Me: "Totally understand. I owe you one."
Him: "GL on it"
Made it back, paid my fine. Wish I'd made a note of his name, so I could Rep him here... after losing 19K CR to insurance the day before in the previous incident, I was lucky it was another player with some class and not a mindless NPC. So thanks, whoever you were.
On a side note - yeah, the Police will start taking shots at you if you overstay your welcome near a NAV. No idea if that's really a bug - I just assume they're jerks on a powertrip, and are tired of us doing their job better than they do.
