Friendly fire. Totally stupid.

Give it a go in the beta, see if it's any better for you.

The current system already gives you some slack, but either way you need to watch out if a friendly is downrange.

There were plenty of arguments about this when one single stray shot could land you a bounty (usually when some police ship boosted between you and what you were shooting at). Now it gives enough room to not get caught out in that situation. In any case how is the game supposed to tell when it's friendly fire and when it's not?

Why is it so easy to get a bounty from a stray shot? So infuriating! This game could be amazing but there's so much stupid lazy stuff like that ruining it. If the OTHER GAME is ever actually released without some of the stupid stuff in Elite, I'm a goner.

Chapter 1 of Beyond makes "friendly fire" a new thing, "reckless weapons discharge," and a fine only. And as far as the other game, I'm sure it'll be amazing. I look forward to my grandkids getting to play it on release. :D

Simple - if you hit someone you don't have targeted.

Yup, reckless weapons discharge, until, of course, the friendly you hit dies, then I'm pretty certain the murder bounty still comes up. When you get warned about it it's a very good idea to leave the instance for a minute or two, somehow NPC's can't die if you aren't instanced with them, who knew?

hello.yeah i think its stupid to .why?? .let me explain.i took a mission to kill a terrorist leader.i go to the system i find him ,he was attaking a federal navy ship so like the noob that i am i didnt wait to scan i atacked him directly, because i wanted to help that navy ship.they all started shooting me,even the ship i was trying to help.now thats as stupid as it can get.i got away with a 200 cr bounty.....so i went in a low security system to pay out my bounty.interstelar factor does not have the 200 cr bounty but instead i have to pay 11888900 bounty in federation .so i do.i go back out i kill my target ,and then i go to a nav beacon ,and again i shoot someone without completing the scan ,and i get 200 bounty.when i go to pay thet off i have 11888900 all over again.so yeah with the new changes seems like the devs think we have some god powers to add credits to our accounts.i mean it would be fine if smeaton would still be available but not like this .so those 11888900 need some explanation because paying that 2 times in 10 minutes its not gonna do this game any good.....short or longterm
peace

Well that makes sense. I don't mind a fine. But getting every local defence force ship turning on me in a res site because one of them floated across my line of fire. ...

That's why they made the change. And they're upping the threshhold for triggering "friendly fire" as well.

I noticed friendly fire warnings from the cops about a week ago. Haven't seen them since. Anyone else getting warned ?

or every 200 bouty you have on you you need to pay 12 millions in federation space for example.thats not normal i think

Cmdr just tried to jump my kill. Jumped in front of me and I shot him. I'm wanted. I unload on him destroy his shields, take his hull to 45 percent and leave. I can't kill him. Total buzzkill. Stupid. Hate it.

Depends on the ship you are flying...

Do the same thing in an eagle & you would be paying a lot less than committing crime in a fully kitted out Annie.

The game knows who's in your target and also if you're currently pushing the fire button, also a simple check by weapontype to determine firerate and how many rounds were fired at the friendly target pretty much gives away if someone's holding down the trigger on a multicannon without giving a damn of hitting friendlies or if it was just a few rounds hitting the friendly, with the fire button being disengaged shortly thereafter.
